Okay so, I read a lot so I'm also on booktok, and literally every book recommendation on there has a "spice level", and the ones with no "spice" don't blow up as much as the badly written ones with tons of "spice". For example, Icebreaker; i could not read past chapter one due too how boring the plot is, but everybody claims it's so good.. but when I ask what makes it good they can only bring up the sex scenes in it. At this point it seems like a porn addiction hidden by a so called "smart hobby".
Don't get me wrong, some books with spice in are great, one of my fav authors has spice in all her books, but it's good because of the actual plot. If it has no plot, it's just reading porn.
Anyways, I just want people to recommend good romance books for the plot not the sex!!

if you want my opinion, i feel the same, and i think the sex scenes are now soooo necessary to atract people to read your/a book. When the society need to read sex scenes to say "its a great romance"? please go back to the times when a kiss or a hand contact was enough
I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling this way! I remember once recommending a really cute romance book to a friend, and they asked the spice level and when I explained there was no spice it was just a cute quick read, they said they probably wont like it
At least give it a chance!!

I really can relate. It's the same in watching series too. They love the NC scenes but there's even no plot in it
