im a basic bitch how do I fix that

as per the title, im a basic bitch and I dress without an erected style because my mom refuses to let me change my wardrobe because she thinks I'll be annoyed about dressing alternative. now that I have basically.... my own money,,,, I can go online or in person and get stuff for myself now.

I want to dress...  goth kind of idk hahahhuwhh. pls let me know where I should shop that has plus size clothing available(online websites or thrift shops preferred)!

LENNOX OUTTT

EDIT: HI! Lennox here, and i just want to say that while I am getting advice in the comments to DIY stuff , I do not have autonomy over myself anymore. I am not allowed to make changes to 'nice' clothing and I also have extra clothing my mother refuses to let me throw away because she is extremely controlling over my appearance. She also hates me! I fear i need to add that, because I got my stuff taken away during an argument. I'm not saying your advice is useless! I swear, but I cannot use these methods as of right now.

DIYYY! I'm pretty much broke as hell, all my clothes are hand me downs so whenever I get the chance I grab some scissors and a sewing needle and I get to work! It's really fun! There's plenty of Youtube and Pinterest tutorials you can use to get inspo and learn to make cool stuff! If DIY isn't your thing then you can head to a thrift store! But I do have to warn you bcs I did the same thing, do NOT expect a haven for cool clothes... Some of the stuff there is literally rotting.

Also sometimes whenever my mom takes me to Walmart I sometimes ask for a few things there! A lot of the things I customize to make them more "me"! Some days the thrift gods aren't so generous so don't feel bad about sometimes heading to walmart for a skirt or two!

Also.. A fun thing, wear things wrong! Like a black skirt.. Wear that as a top! And use a belt to keep it secure and up! GO CRAZY! Wear pants as sleeves! Wear a big shirt as a cute skirt! You never needed to wear skirts on your waist. You told yourself that >:P

because im a child i dont really have autonomy over myself, so diying is not exactly an option anymore. i hate disregarding peoples ideas but ive only been able to cut two of my shirts up because my mom is very. strict. she controls what i do with my wardrobe and she absolutely refuses to let me make decisions on my own, so spending my own money is also not an option. :(( i JUST got my stuff back and i dont wanna get them taken away so quickly if i decide to cut up my shirts

Imo, the best first option is DIY. Grab any sewing materials, scissors, buttons, etc, look up a tutorial, and go to town on whatever you dare to change. If you feel like it, tutorials aren't even needed
Also, something I've been doing recently, which isn't specific to goths, but nothing really is, is making pin badges! I can give you a quick tutorial if you want but I'm going to bed now ( ´◡‿ゝ◡`)

i would really recommend trying to thrift pieces you can style goth-- or shop for specific things on ebay, like accessories or shoes to tie together your fits (which aren't impossible to find at the thrift, but a little more difficult!)

i think if you shop on goth specific websites, you'll end up very disappointed with the quality of the pieces being sold, even on the more notorious sites. everything is so cheaply made these days, don't last, and just don't look good irl. ntm its all so overpriced.

remember, goth subculture is rooted in DIY fashion! don't be afraid to do some research to get some inspo, and make things yourself, or style items you wouldn't necessarily consider "goth" by itself :)

also don't let gatekeepers deter you from exploring the style. there is obviously a "mentality", morals, and even music associated with the style, but you can learn about and pick up on those things along the way.

not everything "goth" has to be trad goth, with perfect white face paint & eyeliner, stomping around in your killstar dress with a pouty face all day ;p don't be afraid to experiment-- you WILL miss the mark some of the time and thats the fun of it.

if you do like that particular style of goth, no hate-- just simply reminding theres more than one way to express yourself within the subsculture :)

good luck & have fun exploring xoxo<3
