I'm looking to go somewhat old tech this year, because I want to gain back my independence from my phone and the dopamine slot machine that it is. I've been looking into a flip phone, Garmin, and mp3 players. Since my brain will get excited and latch like a crocodile onto whatever it seems as a new focus, I spend a ridiculous amount of time trawling eBay and comparing tech pieces and tallying up how much it would take to make it happen --without remembering that I don't have to do it all in one go and probably shouldn't. In a sort of last-ditch effort to buy only what I need to, I spent probably two hours ripping apart my storage room and digging to the bottom of the box stacks, only to find it in a small one at top off to the side --because of course.
Lo and behold, it fucking works.
It's running on a AAA battery but it's plug-n-play, so whatever I want, I can just drop it in there. It's only 1 gig so there's not a lot of room, but this will be a good litmus test for if I want to spend the money to upgrade or not. If I don't mind just switching out playlists and audiobooks, and changing the occasional battery, then there won't be a reason to spend money.
Honestly, it feels kind of silly, because I spent years trying to convince a friend to upgrade to a smartphone, only for me to downgrade like it's the cool thing to do. I feel like I'm doing it just because it's a fad, but there is a tiny part of me that feels like it might be worth a try to see if it helps.

An elegant weapon, for a more civilized age.
I had to upgrade from the Red Tampon because one of the volume buttons stopped working, and it oddly enough made it inoperable.
But now I have the Blue Popsicle that functions pretty much the same, and I enjoy it greatly. It has 4x the space and I feel rich. XD

I used to have one of those, the screen could light up in multiple colours and I could put a whole 156mb of songs on it.
Or 250mb, or 1gb too.. I don’t know. It was 2003/4/5

That particular one (and the one I got to replace it, too) do multicolor, too. I have it on red, though, so it drains the battery slower. The new* one I have is 4 gig, and can hold so much, I'm frankly surprised.
*New to me, in package from 2011.

That’s pretty cool. I saw old/new Ipods still in the package in a thriftstore not too long ago. A part of me still regrets not getting them.
I still have an 8gb mp4 player though
