learning a new language

i've been trying to study chinese for a really long time now, on and off, but i still can't have a basic conversation, i really am not good at self studying at all TAT; i've seen people start speaking a language after 4+ months of studying it but it's been more than a year for me and i'm still stuck where i am.. idk i'm kinda giving up TT

Hey there! I'm also learning Chinese. For motivation, I really recommend getting into things that have a Chinese version or are maybe from China.

Some games I recommend:
- Where Winds Meet
- Infinity Nikki
- Black Myth Wukong
- Genshin Impact

Shows & Movies:
- Love In The Clouds
- Love Between Lines
- Heaven Official's Blessing
- The First Frost
- Us & Them
- Eat Drink Man Woman

Some things that I also really like are:
- watching comprehensible input videos
- translating game/show dialogue/text
- cultural research, naturally pick up more vocab
- cooking chinese food, looking up good sources and recipes usually requires some translation
- VR chat (or irl meetup) language exchange
- reading blogs for your interests (I usually do movie reviews, game wikis, song lyrics, etc)
