Neocities

I am steadily making progress on making my own neocities website! I've been coding using some templates and learning how to add and change stuff using Visual Studio Code. (a free programing/coding software that works on MacOS and Windows) I've been having a lot of fun figuring out what everything does, and slowing figuring out flexbox and CSS. 

I am making one more step twoards mostly abandoning modern social media. I will still have a personal instagram, mostly just to keep up with friends, and a Tumblr, since that's where I post cringe. I have a pretty gnarly internet addiction, so staying clear of websites with short form content such as tiktok, instagram, and youtube shorts is really important to me. I had to completely delete my TikTok account, as it was ruining my life, and then Instagram started to ruin my life too. Hours wasted, lying on my bed and watching slop till my brain rotted away. I've been making a lot of progress twoards stopping my internet addiction. 

I've been trying to be more mindful about how I spend time on the internet. So if im spending 6 hours looking at a screen, It's better if i'm spending it learning HTML and CSS than it is spending it watching shortform content on instagram. 

Its a little sad? So many of my friends are mainly on these large social media websites. I don't want to leave them behind. and Im not!! I just dont think many of them are as interested in things like neocities or spacehey. Of leaving the constant instant gratification behind. I'm not fully ready either. I still use youtube like a lifeline, regrettably. 

But anyways. My neocities site will be a place for me to blog, share my interests, post my art, etc. No algorythims. no like button. no number go up. Just a guestbook. It'll be a place where I can scream into the void as loud as I want, a world where everything has dim lights and glowing stars and everything is a different shade of purple. (purples my favorite color!) 

It'll kinda mash up what I've got here, (blogging, journal writing, bird facts) and what I have on my tumblr (art, fandom, comics). (feel free to come find me on tumblr btw, its under the same name) I've already styled it to have a really pretty color pallete, and I've got most of the functionality of the front page working. I hope some of you will take a look at it when it's done, if you have the time.
