i’m so jealous of people who were born in the 90’s :( they were alive and old enough to participate in all of the best styles and trends. i just wanna be a scene kid from the 2000’s or a gyaru in the 90’s-2000’s. i’m so jealous :(. why did i have to be born so late , none of the trends rn are cool. i wanna have a group of scene kid friends

Heya! Late 90s kid here - didn’t have MySpace though and never got into the whole emo thing until it was completely out of style. I def felt like I was missing out in my teens so I would’ve related to this post back then but honestly, there’s no need to care whether something is trending/in style or not! In fact, I’d argue it’s even cooler to like something when it’s NOT trending/out of style. Makes you stand out more :D While neither of us had the of experience so to speak, there’s a huge community of like minded people on here too so you’re not alone! And yeah, I agree - I wasn’t old enough for MySpace but like I don’t feel like I relate to typical gen z humor/trends. Happy to chat if you’re interested!

And that’s okay! It takes time to find what kind of style you’re into. My tip would be to start off just getting accessories or like one or two shirts/bottoms of whatever aesthetic you’re into. Going full scene is pretty expensive and time-consuming and the awesome thing is that you can customize your style however you like! You don’t have to dress 100% a certain way all the time to be part of something, you can just share music tastes or appreciation over certain accessories etc.
My recommended starter accessories would be: studded belt, fishnet stockings OR arm warmers and big hair bows. You can pair them with a lot of things, esp when you’re still experimenting.
