Writing Analysis 1

In regards to "They watch and they talk."

The piece is terribly imperfect. It is meant to balance on a thin line of too pretty and composed to be a ramblings of a madman, yet too messy and deranged to be "proper poetry". It is the cobweb that you swore you got rid off but it's still there, dusty as ever. It is what it speaks of, mirroring a room not clean enough to be properly lived in, yet not filthy enough to be abandoned. The rot is imminent, but not present. Nothing is ruined or broken, but it is all condemned, contaminated. "Psychological grime", as someone described it.

The objects hold animus, not because of what the narrator did with them, but rather to them. They have been sentenced to decay. And these objects, they are personified, yes, but they are simpler than humans. They don't understand complex cognitive and emotional issues like depression, executive function and the works. They are assigned a purpose from creation, they are unable to drift aimlessly without a goal. That is why they are angry. They cannot carry out their purpose. All they can do is remain where they are, awaiting the inevitable erosion of their material forms. Rot.
