The whole y/n ceo thingy

Hey guys, it's me. Yes I'm gonna sound like a loser who hates fun BUT here comes my take on that trend.

Alright so, very embarrassing to admit, but I was practically raised on Wattpad. And I was a sucker for Werewolf media (yes I read those alpha and omega stuff things without knowing what it was abt), I LOVED bad boy media AND I was a religious reader of those ''y/n'' stuff.

I read those on a daily basis. The ''x reader'' things and also the oc stories where someone was ''y/n'' and I would always read it wrong because I live in the Netherlands and deadass couldn't read English. Anyways, growing up I'd still read them for fun but it became a running joke on wattpad where y/n was basically always the writer's self insert and everyone in the comments would make fun of this y/n character and joke around calling her a pick me and saying ''hey I would never wear'' or ''look like this''. It was funny back in the day.

So EVERY TIME I see those ''me when y/n x so I y and the ceo z'' posts I genuinely roll my eyes, because it's not accurate at all. Yes, y/n was a whiny self insert character but the way that the memes take it is not how it was lived at all and it's also obvious most people making these genuinely haven't been as involved in fandom culture as they pretend to with the posts they make. I mean, it's stupid gatekeeping but it's obvious when people run in on the joke and have never read or barely read fanfic before. And as someone who did grow up on fanfic AND used to write fanfic religiously and still does (though I don't post it and its less cringe) it's kinda embarrassing seeing everyone do this trend and almost forcing themselves to be funny.

Like it is funny and it was for a while, but yall got uncreative like babes don't repeat the jokes you see somewhere else just to say it and sound funny. Not cute.
