I can't leave here without mentioning Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Evangelion (the best anime in history in my opinion), but now to be a little more specific Haibane Renmei it's a pretty good anime and similar to Lain so I highly recommend it. And the last one I have to say would be Nana, I really have a lot to say about this masterpiece, but it's already quite popular, so I doubt that anything I say would be new :p

Its not really the same at all but Kotaro Lives Alone is the most precious underrated slice of life there is I love it so much everyone should give it a go
