young kid with a phone and dreams

Hi I’m Sabi. So surprising right?

Everything you’d like to know about me can be found on my profile, so let’s get to the other shit. I’d love to be a video game developer and artist. I have many, many ideas and projects to hopefully bring to life. I would share them but I don’t want people stealing my stuff. You can check some of those ideas out on my other platforms (TikTok & NewGrounds. User: SabiNotSabi) I’m just posting this for shits and giggles because I joined SpaceHey 3 months ago and haven’t done jack. I’m also on Pinteres (SabiEnteredTheChat)

Have you started learning anything related to game development? Just curious because I tried and realized I kinda hated it. I'd love to write and direct something sorta story based one day. I have a lot of respect for developers though because even making something simple kicked my *ss lol

Just a couple things I wanna share:

Forums about coding and gamedev stuff are sometimes FULL of jerks. Idk why :( I've seen tons of people ask how to code something and they'll just get responses that are super passive aggressive and they always get told "you need to learn the basics before asking these questions" then those people provide no resources for where to start learning. Like at that point idk why they even respond to the question without actually answering it?

First of all, if you ever run into people like this don't let it get you down! The snobby devs don't speak for all of us.
Second, I've had way more luck in discord servers, though idk if you're too young for discord. I remember once having a ton of trouble trying to code something to where I was about to give up. Someone from a server dmed me about it, coded the entire thing for me and walked me through how she did it step by step, telling me what everything meant. People like that aren't super common, but they exist.

The other thing I wanna tell you about might seem weird, but I have a ds game I wanna recommend. If you don't have a ds or money to buy games, you can use an emulator to play ds games on your computer.
It's called Wario Ware DIY. I played it as a kid actually and it was technically my first bit of experience in game development. You make mini games and even though they're really simple, it's a really fun way to learn about stuff like variables and switches which are suuuper important in game development.

OH and there's ds emulators as apps too

Ooh? Thanks for the tip, I didn’t know game devs were such dipshits, I’ll keep all this in mind! :D

What coding language?

Uhhh. English? (I don’t know any coding languages, sorry to disappoint)

How you going to be a game developer if you don't know what coding language your going to code in? Well as a beginner I would start with a little bit of Lua as it's a very simple language but you don't have to go deep into it ( I also went from Lua to JS (J@vascript), changed after I finished learning the basics such as functions, loops and conditionals). Then after that do JS for web and game dev or Python for robotic and a bit of game dev (I recommend JS)

I’ll learn about it when I’m able to, thanks! :)
