Elder Emo Opinion

I think it's cool that the Gen Z group wants to dress how we did and listen to the same music we grew up on. But they will never know the struggles and bullying we went through for dressing that way and listening to that music. To parents and teachers at school, we were just being defiant and wanting to rebel. We had to sometimes fight and barter with our parents to even step foot into a Hot Topic or Spencer's. Because back then it wasn't how it is now, then it was dark and gloomy with screaming music blaring out from the storefront. You're just discovering what is nostalgic for us who lived through that era and wish that we could go back for even just one day to relive those happy memories for a lot of us. And I'm glad that Gen Z is discovering what we grew up with and is loving it.

I understand your post and get it, I think us Gen Z people are experiencing it now especially with the newer generation, I think for us especially for me, I grew up online, I didn’t have friends in real life so my friends were online, I was also friends with older people and admired to be like them with the whole aesthetic, I was too young to dress exactly like them but in elementary and middle school I had the “emo” fit I just wanted to look like the cool older people though.

That’s why I’m reminiscing about that era finally able to express myself how I wanted to, I just wasn’t able to at the time, but I get that it was a rough time for the scene/ emo kids since they were “weirdo” outcast and now the style is super hot and everybody wants to recreate it.

Sorry for the rant T-T
