Boys confuse me :') help me guys

Ok so there's this dude in my class right? And last year I had a crush on him but I stopped talking to him because he thought I was weird for giving him gifts so me being a sensitive person I thought he hated me. So now this year like he keeps touching my arm in the hallway and everyday in math I sit behind him and he keeps sneaking looks at me. I only had one interaction with him and all I asked if he talked to my brother bc my brother kept say he did.(it was a lie) but the thing is that everyone says he's mean or a player, and he talks to a lot of girls so I don't trust him fully. I honestly wanna be friends and I tried before break But I just froze...like I always do. He's also friends with my bullies but he didn't switch his classes like they did to get from me. I dont understand boys anymore.
