[RANT incoming]
like okay there are DEFINITELY hard lines that should be drawn in the sand
shipping minors with adults? DISGUSTING. both minors inappropriately? JAIL. family members? FUCK THAT SHIT. rpf thats way way wayyyy too parasocial? STOP THAT RN.
but beyond that, especially with fiction, i dont get why some peeps get so HEATED and feel the need to declare their hatred for shippers online
i feel like these ppl get annoyed the most by any gay guy ship they encounter
theyre like "these dumb shippers always make it about their ships!!! these two dudes are straight!!! theres nothing romantic between them!!! the creator said theyre not gay!! cant men just be friends??? does nobody care about canon anymore??"
ok. when people yell about shipping two guys they often justify it by reciting canon like "they like women", "he has a girlfriend", "later in life they both get married and start their families"
and thats cool. but, PERSONALLY, that tells me that these people refuse to look beyond canon. refuse to interpret things their own way.
and oh. guess what. the creators intentions and the execution of their ideas dont always match. people most likely dont pull ships out their ass. if many different ppl see the romance in the friendship/rivalry between boys then thats whats being shown, regardless of whether the creator even wanted things to be interpreted that way (this is also the case when the female characters are basically abandoned or pushed to the sidelines of the story) (many such cases within older shonen anime :') ) (im blatantly just talking ab naruto atp lol)
every bulletin of mine these days somehow turns into a rant huh

People should be able to ship whatever they want if it doesn't cross the line of incest, pedo, etc and others should respect that if you don't like a ship and want to stay with canon just scroll down

ppl dont like gay ships because of internalized homophobia,, also when a gay ship IS canon, its always fetishized or made straight by the fanbase. anyone who says homophobia is dead needs to wake up
unfortunately this is very true
homophobia is so deeply ingrained in society that it would take generations of active work to dispel
but the way things have been going in the world, i fear bigotry will get stronger again
