Random Thoughts on The Struts

Just finished listening to an album by the Struts. I think some of their songs were okay while othrs were annoying. Judging by the cover you’d think they were 80s grunge or hard rock, but unfortunately they’re from 2014. This means the music is a mix of the endings of a pop punk trend, the beginnings of theater core, and smack dab in the middle of what we now call the Stomp-Clap-Hey movement. To me, the songs only work when they’re closer to the pop punk side, like “Roll Up”. Anything else meshes terribly with the loud, raspy Derbyshire voice coming from the front man. That “IIIIII DOOOOOOON’T FEEEEEEEEEEAR YOUUUU” gives me a headache. Their lyrical content isn’t really anything to write home about either.

Overall, not a fan of them. 5/10
