Is anybody else going to attempt to do the physical media/old technology reset??

I've been hearing about it a lot, and I wanna try participating because I'm so sick of instagram and all this modern AI bullshit, which is one of the main reasons I joined this platform, but I do feel like this whole thing will fizzle out rather quickly since we're all so dependent on our phones (myself included). idk it seems like a cool idea, maybe even a form of protest to all these major companies(?), but as it is now, I don't see this lasting very long.

Still, I'd really like to try. I've already got a cd/record/cassette player for Christmas, and I've been wanting to get a little mp3 player and a cd burner. Maybe this will help clear my head and make it not so hard to think, or maybe I just need to reconnect with nature or something. idk.

Attempted? I have been slowly building it up since 2020.

I used a Sony Handycam to record my memories from July 11, 2024 to January 1, 2026 on a single Video8 tape.

I have done some stuff on my Wii, PS3, and 3DS, but I am not an avid gamer most of the time.

I have wanted to get another iPod because my 2nd Gen iPod Nano has a bad battery.

I planned on getting a CRT monitor to replace my LCD monitor, but I can't find any due to them being so expensive right now.

I am getting chargers for my digital cameras, so I will be taking photos with those.

I burn CDs and DVDs for the fun of it, and I plan on getting an external Floppy drive in the future for my 3.5" Floppy Disks, and plan on recording music on Cassette.

My voice recorder takes Microcassettes, and I have been making the switch to CRTs, and plan on also getting a flip phone, as I do literally everything on a computer now.

Even my main computer is from 2012!

I also use landline service as well.

Reasons: I grew up with some older stuff, and expanded it, and because modern stuff sucks. I don't even use Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok, etc.

It's quite difficult for everyone to do it since everything now is much easier
I always listened to music myself by downloading it and playing it on the music player on the phone for 16 years of my life and slowly stopped and started to listen on YouTube and Spotify (besides that ads are shit)
But neither the less I tried now for two years to go the old way I tried with my I pod mini and it didn't go smooth cuz uploading music on it it such a headache and I tried a mp3 with sd card and it's just also a headache to pull out and download the new music each time you wanna add new playlist or new songs it's very not enjoyable process
I think a didicated mp3 connected online and have Spotify like and u can download the music after u hear it would be much more cooler compaining old and new
But that would he basically just what we have which is a phone :/
Physical movies tho is quite good or at least downloaded movies be better for ppl with low speed internet or countries that doesn't have unlimited internet
Cameras on the other hand will still no matter what phones do it can't just match the vibe of it
I think no body will go back to older technology but they are still functioning and can be used everyday despite anything else but new tech is much better and everyone would honestly just pick that over the old tech

as a trend it won't last, but i cut out streaming services and mainstream social media months ago and i wholeheartedly recommend it. they give you nothing you can't get without them

That's great!1 I've been trying to get off of instagram, mostly because of all the AI features they're pushing, but that's mainly where I post my art, so it has been a bit hard for me to quit. I've been using tumblr as an alternative but i don't get much traction on there. Do you have any tips for quitting instagram or just using it less?

tumblr can be a great place to post art, but i agree that it can be a bit hard to get traction on there. it can be a kind of a fandom-driven place, so if you do fanart for anything at all maybe try posting that to get people acquainted with your style? i see a ton of really great art on tumblr.

i put app timers on all of my social media at first so instead of having "unlimited time" to scroll, i was more mindful about how i was spending the (i did 30 mins) time i was allowed. you just kind of have to break the habit/cycle and train yourself to reach for something else instead. on instagram especially, the comments are frequently vile lol so that helped a lot too, i don't miss that
