"The story revolves around LAYER-GREEN, a three-dimensional "information sphere" representation of the internet, and was made to have people understand the feeling of being in an internet community, and to maybe make them want to buy a computer."
"The idea of LAYER-GREEN was inspired by a vacation Hirasawa took in Bali in late 1996, amazed by the fractal patterns that he saw on a temple and its nearby jungle, as well as gamelan music, feeling that Bali was techno music itself. This Asian inspiration also manifested in the music made for the album."
This project was a team effort, and Hirasawa wasn't the head director (as he usually tends to be.) In live shows all of them play instruments.
(Wrote and composed ENN, Spiritus, A Strange Fruit, AFFIRMATION, HIDDEN PROTOCOL)
I absolutely love how the songs sound, they're full of whimsy, each and every single one of them.
Hirasawa [guy on your left] vocals, electric guitar, synthesizers, sampler, Amiga, sequencer, programming
(Wrote and composed ENOLA, Rocket Shoot II, LAYER-GREEN, Black in White, BA-DA-DHA, co-composed Ashura Clock (Discommunicator), co-wrote BOGY, co-wrote Eisei ALONE, co-wrote COLORS)
My goat... His songs sound awfully serious and calculated. And of course Hirasawa has a huge tendency to sample live vocals, which he still does, and always will... Less layered, but still tough. The songs he wrote and worked on the most sticked out the most to me since I found out about this album. And I also notice that he loves using string instruments in his songs, especially in this album.
Fukuma [guy on your right] System-1, lead vocals on "BOGY", backing vocals

"Hajime Fukuma, who was not content with making only "bonus material"
following the release of "Rocket Shoot", sought to actively participate
on the project. Some of his contributions aimed for a P-Model feel, but he also tried
to include arrangement touches that the other members either would not
use or opposed using on their own material and easy to understand
technopop songs."
His songs have a special feel, I can see his direction but the songs he composed gave a very dreamy feeling, in the best way possible. I feel bad for not appreciating his works before since I used to avoid Eisei ALONE. Relistening to it now I adore it. And I love how he would jump around the stage in shows, it makes me jump with him. Unfortunately, he chronically struggles with a brain condition and passed away on January 1, 2022 due to a thrombosed aortic aneurysm. I remember the news and was deeply saddened as well. Relistening to his works right now, he definitely inspires me to make something. Thank you Hajime Fukuma, for your amazing works.
"Every member had a Roland VS-880 hard disk recorder, so almost all electronics were recorded on their home studios. They communicated online about their songs, sending low-quality RealAudio files of their demos to each other for review, changing aspects as discussion went on. They later convened in Thai studios to listen to the others' songs in high-quality and to record vocals. After recording was finished, they then went to a Tokyo studio to transfer their recordings to tape and mixdown."
I wish I could hear the demos!! But it's well over been 30 years. This is my favorite P-MODEL album due to every single part being masterfully done, it's both serious, upbeat and magical in a sense. I'm entering my 8th year of being a fan of this band and I can't be more than happy!
The song playing in this blog is called COLORS. There's a music video as well. I wanted to add a Fukuma song to really show his wonder.
Thank you for reading!
