Ok so I’m gonna start off my saying this: Ik this has been going on for a while probably since before u and I were born but like, the theater society is so unfair it’s sickening!! I’ve put on my profile that I’m a huge theatre nerd and I recently tried out for a musical, High School Musical. Long story short, I didn’t get a callback (I’ve always gotten callbacks), and the directors let 12 year olds try out even though the flyer specifically said 14 year olds and up. I also remember that in another show before HSM, a 12-year old and I were talking about plays and stuff, and he said to me, “yeah, even though I’m 12 and the age limit is 14 and up, Jacob said I could do it.” For context, “Jacob” is one of the few people on the board for this certain theater program and has a lot of power over casting (even tho he’s not a director or part of the crew).
So the 12-year old tries out and gets a lead (I’m sorry but bro can’t even sing and he acts like he’s not into it on stage) and what’s even more infuriating is that Jacob’s son and daughter who I’ll call Mark and Grace(both very mean) , both got leads even though they both can’t sing or act, and we all know they got leads just because they’re the kids of Jacob. Another thing that I’m pissed off about is that the girl who got Gabriella went in for auditions, got a callback, but didn’t even show up for callbacks because she went to Disney Land the next day for her 13th birthday, and she STILL GOT A FREAKING LEAD!!! And I know she didn’t get send in a tape because she told me herself. And she’s 13, like what?!
We NEED new people to get leads, it’s so unfair! I know I can’t always be a lead but so can Grace and Mark as well.
Let me know what yall think about this in the comments. Fellow Theater people, I bet this has happened to you guys too!!
