This may be a shot in the dark. I got my mawmaw's old stereo out of her and paw's house after Pawpaw passed not long ago. My mom nor aunts and uncles wanted it and was just going to toss it. Mawmaw had this since I was a kid and remember it fondly so no way was I just gonna let them toss it. Anyway, it works still. The radio is just fine on it. Don't know about the cassette player yet. the CD player part does work however, after a little bit it starts skipping. Every CD we have put in it skips. The same CDs work just fine in my car and on my ps2. We did try cleaning the lens but it did nothing. Anyone have any other ideas to get it to stop skipping?

Can be because of contamination and/or physical damage. The CD player can also be malfunctioning. Extreme temperatures damage players sometimes. If it's old, there's a high chance that's what happened (deterioration from time). The laser can also be clogged/dirty, or misaligned. You might need to replace the laser? I'm not too sure on the proccess behind that so it's better to have a local tech expert fix it for you.
oooh yeah. Thank you for all the suggestions. I may try and look around where I live to see if anyone may be able to fix it
