Why “Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino” is Overhated

TBHC and this idea of an astronomical, intergalactic, planetary album.

[Reposted Entry from January 2022]

You might know Arctic Monkeys 6th studio album titled Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. For casual listeners, it's music is ignored. But to a lot of fans, this album is very rarely their favourite.

When this album released, it was a shock for many people especially fans who fell in love with Arctic Monkeys's style and genre. It was a complete 180 from their last album "AM" with its grungy, lustfull, garage rock genre. Ever since Arctic Monkeys started, they have been known as an indie-rock band with amazing song writing and decade-defining tunes. They have always evolved their music since the very first album, but its just never happened so drastically so fans were disappointed since it wasn't what they were expecting.

Some bands want to stay in one genre, and some bands want to explore to find what they like. I think it's a good album based on what genre they wanted to make it. I liked every song from 'Star Treatment' to 'The Ultracheese' (with ultracheese being my favourite), it has that '70s sci-fi influence to it. It has a lot of meaning and depth put into it, songs about how social media is not great and the “strange objectless unease” of immersion in visual media.

You know, don't quit being a fan just because they released something unexpected, they're a famous band and if they can use that opportunity to show the people what they created, what they're proud of and some other things that they learned, why not? That's how you grow. That's why Alex Turner doesn't like how social media expects you to do something for them. If he's happy of what he made, that's how you become successful in life, it's honestly the healthy state of being in a band, is that you create something you are happy with it, not caring what the people has to say, unless they enjoy it, it makes him happy.
