I like it. I like the idea. I like the potential.

But what the average consumer-driven person fails to realize is that its just another trend. A scam made by the SAME people whose power you are trying to escape from. 

I was scrolling on instagram (yes, stupid, i know.) and i came to a reel featuring a modern flip-phone. The idea is the most stupid thing I have ever been cursed to witness.

Essentially, it's a "cute" flip-phone. Yet it has EVERYTHING that a normal smartphone has. Instagram, Tiktok, Maps, it even has Netflix for fucks sake!

Here is the comment I wrote in response to this god-forsaken contraption:

"The point of flip phones is to disconnect. But if it has tiktok, instagram, and spotify that defeats the whole point. Just admit it, you're here for the aesthetics, for the vibe. But you're to addicted to actually embrace the lifestyle. This is just another typical trend that will be replaced by another, and your "fliphone" will end up in a landfill. Rotting for eternity along with all the other past trends that came to an end."

It's just another thing for you to buy. Another thing for you to consume. Don't you realize its another trap? Everything being created new when there's so much of the old still left for us to enjoy. Most likely, people will buy it, a new phone will come out, and they discard of it like they do with everything else. 

Modern phones require the extraction of earths precious and rare natural resources. They are obtained through processes detrimental to the environment and the ecosystems around it

When will it end? this mindless consumption? these mindless purchases at the expense of our earth?

I have no problem with REAL dumb phones.. you know, the ones where its primary purpose was to call and text. I have nothing against the push AGAINST social media and the rejection of modern technology. Infact, I support it. But when I see something likes this all I feel is rage.

In my opinion, what should happen now is the purchase of pre-existing physical media. Fuck all this new stuff. Buy a used ipod, a used cd/dvd player. Buy a dumb phone that isn't a result of some flickering trend, but rather a reflection of a revolutionary past, and a reminder of what YOU stand for. What YOU want to be. You all want to "go back", no? then why do you keep accepting the new? Why do you devour it like a pack of starved wolves? 

I reckon this doesn't have much to do with News and Politics. I just didn't know what category to put it in lol. Thanks for reading.
