Anime recommendation #1

HAIBANE RENMEI

Hello everyone, how are you? I hope you're well. I haven't been posting blogs lately; to be honest, I enjoy publishing these entries, but sometimes I don't have many ideas to talk about. So, I’ve decided to start a series where I’ll recommend animes I like, hehe.

synopsis

¨Haibane Renmei follows Rakka, a young girl who is reborn as an angelic creature (Haibane) with wings and a halo, but without any previous memories, in a walled city called Glie where they coexist with regular humans. The series explores themes of existence, guilt, forgiveness, and redemption through the daily lives of the Haibane in an 'Old Home' as they discover the rules of their world, face their past 'sins' (symbolized by black wings), and seek the meaning of their rebirth, leaving many questions unanswered for the viewer to interpret.¨

qualificaions

This anime has a rating of 7.3/10 on IMDb and 4.2/5 on Letterboxd; these are actually very good ratings. I give it a 9/10, it's one of my favorites.

my opinion

I cried with this anime, I cried a lot. I cried during most of the episodes after the fifth one. It probably caught me at a moment when I was feeling sensitive, because this doesn't usually happen.

The first few episodes are very calm, Rakka explores the village, meets its inhabitants, and is shown the different jobs within the town. There are certain mysteries surrounding this town and the Haibane, she tries to find the truth and the purpose of her existence. Near the middle of the anime, an event occurs that changes everything and gives the story more depth.

When this anime was recommended to me, I was warned about this plot twist. At first, I was afraid it might become a bit 'edgy,' you know, like those cartoons that seem childish but end up being just gratuitous gore and blood. But in reality, it's not like that; this anime takes another path. It's more introspective and handles more complex themes, such as loss and guilt. I'd like to talk more about this, but I don't want to give spoilers, I want it to surprise you as much as it surprised me.

My favorite character is Reki. In fact, I think she is the best developed character in the anime. She acts as a kind of mentor for Rakka, she helps her through her birth, shows her the town, and has a certain maternal care for her. Near the end of the story, she takes on much more prominence and it's insane, one of the best things in the entire anime.

If you like animes that are a bit deep, with a different aesthetic and well-developed characters, I highly recommend this anime. I love you all.
