Books I've Read Recently---kinda ?

Hi hello I wanted to come on here & yap about some of the books i've read/have been reading recently but then i got distracted & fought with css for like 3 hours but ! we're finally here !! talking about books yippee yahoo. it just might get a little wildly off topic idkkk idk!

Okay first book i want to talk about: Wuthering Heights.

I read it a few weeks (???) ago over the span of, like, one weekend. Which is insane because 1. i wasn't really expecting to finish it at all?? & 2. thats the fastest ive finished a classic book Ever. & it was really, really, really good! I picked it up because I saw someone once in the authors notes of a fanfiction compare sam&frodo to cathy&heathcliff---more in the sense of their situation, & very very loosly---& so now they're linked fundamentally in my head (Also, can they PLEASE give us the long dashes i dont like how the short ones look, & i like even less how the three look in a row like this. anyway), & then I got a video of the chorus to kate bush's wuthering heights on instagram & i went "oh no... sam & frodo...."  & then looped the song so many times I decided i had to read the book IMMEDIATELY!! thank god my library had it. & then the day after i picked it up I had a 8 hour long rehearsal in which i did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!! we did Nawt need to be there but swagever. anyway. moral of the story, i finished it in about 3 days, which is insanely fast for me. & i really really really liked it. it was such a wild & busy & generally tumultuous time in my life that i can't really remember as many of the finer details as id like, but . I am so so so excited for the new adaptation to come out next year so i can complain about it <333 im also dreading it because i fear the general population that doesn't know anything is gonna be obsessed with it even though we can already tell its going to be complete ass. SIGH! my #1 hobby is being a hater about bad adaptations, but the general public also refuse to listen to me when i say theyre bad (side eyeing the hobbit trilogy) . anyway . ANYWAY!!! i digress!!!!! i LOVED the book ik ive said that like 29813940824 times but ill continue to say it! i didn't realllylyyy look too deeply into all the themes of like . the class differences & the othering of like all of the characters at some point, except for the ones that were literally thrown at your face (& among other similar themes), because i was just there to have a good time, but i do believe people when they say its a commentary on some of the social issues at the time & i cant wait to get in there & explore things more in depth. i liked cathy a LOT she was awful & terrible & i need to get inside her head. & i loved the fact that it was nelly narrating it because she was giving us this wonderful unreliable narration & you could See her biases!!! mainly her biases with cathy & heathcliff, & also her unbeatable nostalgia around hindley!!!!!! everytime she would flashback to them as kids !!!! GOD!!!! & the cycles of it all !!! different generations all growing up together & being shaped by the people they knew as kids, & heathcliff trying so ! hard ! to poison cathy2 & hareton & his own son all for some kind of revenge & it doesnt work in the end!!!!!!!! they get to be happy !!!!!!!! & ofc the ghosts of cathy1 & heathcliff haning out in the moors together.... nodding emoji its what they deserve.... i got my own copy for christmas so i am for sure going in & rereading it soon i miss them .

2nd book: The Treason of Isengard (& the whole history of lotr books really).

recentlyish (a few months ago) i got my hands on theee.. 4th ? boxset ? of the history of middle earth---that part isnt important. what Is important is the fact that these are the ones the detail the process of writing the lord of the rings & MY GOD!!!!!!! theyre so much fun. i havent really ?? seen anyone at all talk about them?? but theyre sooo important to me ive been reading thru them since i got them (rather slowly, i know) & its just?? its so much fun?? & kind of exposing me to the fact that i Do like academic works even though i thought for sure i wouldnt. the first one was a lot of fun, it got up to the mines of moria, with a LOT of trial & error (aragorn was a hobbit named trotter ! a kind of well known fact but still a funny one to me. frodo was called bingo. sam didnt exist & neither did pippin. merry was called MARMADUKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) but it was so awesome & really really interesting to watch the struggle to get there. The second one finished out the fellowship & juuust started into the two towers, and the third one, the war of the ring (the one im on now), is getting more indepth with TT (so far, im only on chapter 4 or 5, i cant remember), & im bringing this up because the struggle with rohan was particularly interesting. They were going to start as being on saurons side, and then somehow it switched almost completely. the history of helms deep itself is also really interesting, something about it being the stronghold of some guy---a hero---who is alive & then who isnt because he was an anchient hero & then back to being alive again. its such a slow growth, but when a piece clicks into place it Clicks. do you know that sound when youre tuning an instrument with another string---tuning with 5ths---& you finally get it into place & it sounds like joy itself? its almost like that. i'm always particularly greedy for the sam & frodo parts, because theyre my favorite, and theres been such an interesting growth to that too---its all really, really fascinating. the one im on now has a whole chapter about faramir towards the end, and i'm really really excited to get there, because he's kinda everything to me & i need to know how he came about. currently im at the beginning of the battle for helms deep, which i think might be either really really easy or really difficult to get to. i dont know! its so much fun

finally: The Silmarillion.

it feels a bit like cheating to include this one, but ive been reading it, albeit very very slowly. I got a book for christmas, the nature of middle earth, and in the introduction i think ? the editor is like "this book assumes a basic understanding of the silmarillion as it was published in 1977" & seeing as i have 0 understanding of the silmarillion as it was published ever, i figured it was time to stop dragging my pussy around & actually read it. im on like. page 2 of the valaquenta (or whatever it is idk i dont wanna go find the book rn) but i've been taking notes EVERYWHERE as a desperate attempt to actually understand it. I tried to read it before a few months ago & i just kept getting more & more & more lost that i eventually gave up & just started rereading LOTR, so keeping notes about a bunch of things is actually being really helpful. Also probably the fact that i know theres an index of names now, which i didn't before, and which i've been abusing regularly. & its been taking me FOREVERRRRRR but !! im honestly having SO much fun going in there & doing my stupid little notes & comparing everything i can to frodo its so awesome i have to go back there !

& thats where im signing off for now. sorrying for being absentee, id say ive been busy (WHICH I HAVE!!!!) but i also forget this website exists everytime im not actively on it so . i hope everyones been well & has had a good year ! happy new year!!!!! :)
