Hey,
this is my first blog post and I´m simply using it to shit talk about stuff that goes through my mind or that currently keeps my head busy.
One of my new years resolution was to reduce the screen time on my phone. It was very hard because I was extremely addicted to it and easy spend the whole day scrolling through Instagram reels. It was very bad for my mental health but it also affected my hobbies. I didn´t draw anymore and my concentration spain was very little.
Fast forward it took me over six months to finally come to the conclusion to delete my instagram account. First it was hard because I shared my art there but I managed it to delete all my accounts. I feel better since that. I set a grey filter on my phone and used a basic backround so I won´t get distracted or better said: I don´t find my phone interesting anymore.
I got back to old media and also deleted some subcriptions like Spotify, Youtube and Crunchyroll. Instead I´m using an Ipod Classic Gen 5 and I looove this thing!
Yeah, just wanted to share that. I´m really proud of myself that I got this far! Only disadvantage is: I shifted my doom scroll addiction to Youtube Videos. I love to watch gossip videos and stuff. Still need to work on that lol.
What´s your experience? Do you often catch yourself spending too much time on your phone?

you can really be proud of yourself! that's such a great thing to accomplish. I'm really struggling with doom-scrolling. I'm struggling to delete Instagram because it's the only platform I can stay in touch with some old friends. Sometimes I delete it for a few days but I always feel this nervous restlessness when I can't numb my brain and thoughts. I end up on something like Youtube shorts (terrible, I know). I came up with a new option that hopefully helps me - only accessing Instagram via my laptop browser, scrolling doesn't really make fun on there and it feels more like "in the old days", when you always had to use your computer to access the internet. also I hate that every app now has a short video option, whyy?? Anyways, I hope I'll be able to reduce my screen time in the new year
Thank you so much! It took a lot of time but was worth it in the end!
I feel that so much! I had artists friends on Instagram. We weren´t in contact reguarly but from time to time. I felt like losing contact if I delete Instagram. I did it anyway - for my health. At the end of the day two people reached out the rest didn´t care and that showed me how superficial those friendships were.
I did the thing with Instagram on the Laptop or PC as well but realized it didn´t help me. Just continued scrolling. But good thing that it´s working for you!
I adapted my addiction to youtube now that I don´t have instagram anymore. I don´t watch reels but still too much media haha. I´m working on it.
I wish you luck for reducing doom scrolling more and more!

yeah, I'm still not sure how the laptop thing is going to work out. I think I'm not brave enough yet for a radical step like you lol

Same!!! Since I deleted ig and tiktok life get better and instead of scrolling all day and waisting my time I start use this site and exploring nice sites and back to read mangas and watching movies and do my favorite hobbies but now I stopped a little for my final exams
Also short videos are bad for our brains it's overwhelming

Nuked my Binstagram, not looking back.
Will try to reduce mobile usage in 2026.
You can be really proud of that! Phones give us the same dopamine as cocaine. I mean how insane is that?
I´ll cross my fingers for you!

I used to spend like my whole free time on my phone, then I deleted the app saying "I wont return till I pass my final exams" and indeed I didn't.
Then the whole thing restarted.
Failed and restarted several times.
But now it's been almost 2 months with my host block (I banned the websites of instagram) cause yk, deleting them off phone won't stop me from going via web browser.
Worked very well.
My programming time went up a lot and am reading a lot more. Had this python book laying around for almost 2 years and I am finally getting to reading it (spoiler, I found a mistake in it lmao)
Lmfao the dreaded /etc/hosts file block, absolute chad move. (I wasn't that desperate fortunately)

That´s amazing and keep up the good work because it´s not easy resisting! I had a similiar effect. I searched for something to replace the doom scrolling so I borrow books from the library and it works. Sure, sometimes I´m bored after some pages but I just keep reading because overall it´s better instead of scrolling.
I was so addicted that deleting my Instagram account was my only way to go.
Do you have any other activities you do instead of scrolling?

Mostly spending my time on learning how to code (as a cs student we learn anything but coding).
Go outside for walks or play games (occasionally). I mostly just do what I feel like doing.
