Why do I feel like everyone I meet is just a shell of themself? I don't know if it makes any sens but let me explain myself.
Most of the people I've interacted with IRL and online don't really have a personality, not saying this in a judgmental way, but the only topics they speak of are "trends".
I get that some trendy things are genuinely interesting to some people and help them discover new hobbies, let me take comics as an example. I've been a huge reader of them since middle and even before with tv shows, and I noticed that they were starting to get popular, especially on social media, which made me happy, meaning I could make more friends with the same interests as me.
I "introduced" my cousin to comics after seeing that she reposted one or two edits about Batman on TT and now she spends "her" money and comics she doesn't read, doesn't show interest in anything other than the "handsome heroes". I'm not shaming her, I love her dearly and I understand that a teen ofc she'll be into the handsomeness of DC men; she isn't even the only one that take a trendy hobby and just want to flaunt to people that she's trendy but it all feels shallow. I know that she isn't interested in it outside of fan service.
Hopefully this example helped me get my point across, a lot of people are so "shallow", they don't express their real selves and just follow trends without showing any real interest in them, ofc they're helpful to get some people to discover new tastes and hobbies but most of the time in just makes people "empty" and consume a lot. Like we can see it right now with Xmas decorations, the pink ones with bows (coquette), leopard prints, and so on... It'll be bought and will be used only once.
(This blog isn't meant to belittle or hate on anyone I just wanted to get the steam out and share my opinion)
XOXO,

I think, as you say, it's a product of overconsumption, algorithms, and just how FAST things are !! Everything is easy and temporary, so you dont get to analyze the media you like, you only get to see it . Online spaces usually go for a more superficial approach, because it relates to a broader audience, than analyzing any piece of media for the actual plot. I have also seen a trend where people try to not care .. and that also hurts their hobbies. I, fortunately, have been able to connect with people who have actual hobbies and stuff, but it's becoming more and more common to like things because of trends than because you ACTUALLY like it

no you right, sadly our social media presence these days are way more important then finding our true identity. We spend so much time doomscrolling, hearing thousands of opinions and getting new impulses on what's cool and what's not that it's hard to really think about what we really like. People don't sit with themselves anymore and think about who they really are, it's way to boring. We need to be stimulated 27/7
