sorry im MIA... im homeless ;-;

so the title really sums it up, my last blog was about turning my spouse's childhood home into a duplex for their grandmother and ourselves because she's been worried about passing

this agreement was made between the three of us with the understanding that all the work we put into the house was happening because it would be OURS if-- god forbid-- anything happened to my spouse's grandmother

first red flag was that within a week she told us my spouse's abusive mom had basically begged her to put IN WRITING that she would get the house and not my spouse.

we pretty much decided right then that we would start looking for new places to go long-term, but didn't say anything to my spouse's grandma because we were still willing to care for her and help her with bills even if we didn't live directly *IN* the home.

another week in, grandma's dog, which had also been my spouse's childhood dog, became very ill and had to be taken to the emergency vet where he was diagnosed with terminal lymphoma and we had to pay for the vet services because grandma couldn't.

The next week, we completely lost heat in the house.

After a pricey inspection, we were essentially told that nobody had done any up-keeping on the house's electrical since the 90s, it had been sold to my spouse's family 7 years ago by the VA but apparently never brought up-to-code before she moved in.

We have been doing our best to help her keep a circulation of wood for the fireplace as well as propane for heaters in the two sleeping areas, but have been taking any offers for couch-hopping that we can get to save money.

My biological dad (estranged & chronically ill himself) even offered to get my spouse's grandmother a hotel but she refuses to take any help, including meal deliveries we made to her

It will be over $10,000 to bring our house back to code, we're waiting to see if we can get a grant from the state of Michigan but until then, my spouse and I are living off of propane heat and charging portable batteries at the library.
