Ok so this was a thought I had while working on one of my scripts.. so i’m gonna ramble a little about story telling.
it’s general advice to approach a story with a goal, a message, a ‘purpose.’ And not just a story but everything in it—from every plot point, every character, line, every word, every scene. etcetera.
So I was thinking about the purpose of the scene I was writing and going through a thought process about how it’s hard to write natural dialogue that hits all the points you want. because you don’t want to SPELL OUT every little thing because that’s now how people work. You don’t always something with a thought about where that’s going to lead or how that shifts the conversation or leads into things down the line. I think beginners or alot of writers struggle with that.
So when you’re goal is introduce a character and their goal, or a dynamic between characters, you have to figure out a way to convey it without saying “i want” or “i hate this person.” you’re approaching it through their actions and words and body language.
It’s like lying 😅 it’s hard for people because suddenly you’re lying for a reason and have to figure out a completely different way to convey ‘truth’ to the audience you’re lying to.
idk if this gets my point across but i’m trying to write natural dialogue and it’s kinda hard

I know exactly what you mean :/ It‘s a struggle, but hey, with every dialogue and every beta reader response we get (hopefully) better XOXO
