I joined SpaceHey on February 14, 2021.
In that time I have loved this website. It gave me something from the internet that I had lost a long time ago.
I've had so many wonderful conversations, so many fun projects, got to be apart of some famous and infamous moments from this site's history, and I really, really don't want to leave.
However, SpaceHey is complying with US state laws regarding social media censorship which means I will either need to eventually verify my ID (which I will not do on any site) or need to access the site via a proxy or VPN (which is not something I'm going to use for many reasons). As a result, my time here must come to an end.
The Layout Editor site will remain up on Neocities but it will not get any future updates. Should something change with how SpaceHey implements its page elements then the editor site will become unusable. If this happens and someone wants to fork it to their site and update it then you have my full permission.
Do good. Get organized. Reject the bourgeoisie. And take care.

that is genuinely so sad, i was hoping they didn't have to comply with the age verification law, it genuinely sucks so much and my vpn so happened to be set to new york so when I opened spacehey it also gave me that message. it genuinely sucks that age verification has to be shoved everywhere and i hope it eventually dies out and the internet starts to heal again

Glad to see it's not banned in my region because I use this website alot on my school computer. I do however think it's crazy they're restricting websites that don't even have any NSFW content, but still it's insane like free speech dude.

Love how Spacehey is just unaware that because it doesn't have NSFW it doesn't have to do ID's its already banned here, Spacehey has nothing to worry about.

I am not in NY and I can't log in on a browser anymore because it apparently thinks I'm in NY, but the app still works for now. I'm also not going to submitting any goverment documents or otherwise for identity verification. There's already been how many data breaches? This will make it worse and more devastating. It's so it's easier to track and imprison anyone that doesn't agree with the current regime. They'll subpeona your info from the website if you say something they don't like, and because it's "verified" you're stuck. Match that with hacks: the hackers can sell your info and then people can make more accounts pretending to be verified "you" to get you in trouble. This is unsafe and a guise. It's a targeting system.
yall, listen, do not send your information in. Set up a second phone number or an email specifically for correspondence if there are people you want to stay in touch with. I'm serious. We didn't always have these spaces to communicate. Sure, it makes it convenient, but there are alternatives. We used to build websites to establish community (think web 2.0?) and then interact with eachother via im, email, or guestbook/on page chatrooms. I dont know if every single thing will be targeted or solely social media, have back up plans. Be safe. Stay strong . Keep fighting.
I just watched A Bug's Life on VHS. You should watch it too if you can find access to it. It is extremely relevent. You are more powerful than they want you to think.

Yeah, so I HYPOTHETICALLY decided to log in today because why not and saw I got logged out, and when I put in my credentials I saw the big brick wall because of certain things passed in NY.
But to be clear on how I’m using the site now, I am DEFINITELY not on a VPN right now and am located in Europe 100%

I never knew that this was happening, as someone from Illinois. It’s sad how so many websites and apps need our ids. It feels dystopian. Hopefully my state doesn’t implement this any time soon.
Illinois here too, hoping it doesn't get banned in our region.
