A while ago, I wrote a short post about wanting an MP3 player. A big reason for that is that I don’t really want to use Spotify anymore. The ads get in the way, and while premium has its perks, I don’t feel like paying just to remove them. There are other options, and I’ve been thinking about those instead.
So this is sort of a continuation of that thought.
At some point, I remembered that my aunt had an old iPod Touch. Eventually, I got it from her, which already felt like a small win. Holding it made the idea feel more real, like I was getting closer to understanding why people liked iPods in the first place.
That excitement didn’t last very long.
I discovered that the battery was completely dead. It wouldn’t hold a charge, and I decided not to repair it myself. iPod Touch batteries are difficult to replace, and I know my limits. This was one of them.
So I started looking for other options.
I found myself interested in the iPod Nano, mostly because it’s small. I am also small, so this felt appropriate. There’s something appealing about a device that only does one thing and does it well.
Eventually, I found a defective iPod Nano 3rd Generation being sold for about five dollars. It doesn’t fully work, but that’s part of the appeal. I like the idea of replacing the broken parts myself, both to save money and to practice fixing devices. If I break it even more, at least I’ll learn something.
Right now, I’m still talking to the seller on Marketplace. Nothing is final yet, and I don’t know how this will end.
That’s where the story stops for now. I don’t know what will happen next, but I think it’s worth trying.
