I'm basically just coming on here ranting about how much I miss playing the drums lol I used to play them when I hung with my friend nick a lot, he's like in his 40s but he's super cool and plays an lot of instruments. He got me into the drums like 2 years ago and I learned the sweater song by Weezer in like a hour and performed it with him and I think drums are literally my thing it's my passion I fell in love with the drums.
I haven't been hanging with Nick a lot lately, mostly cuz of school and some drama between his 'girlfriend' and my mom - but because of that I haven't been over to play his drums in a long time. I don't own a set, and my mom said the only kind I can own is an electric set- which is fine I just need to make some money to buy one.
My best friend is in a band, and their drummer lacks the passion for it. They asked if i could be a temporary drummer, or maybe possibly their new drummer and even offered to help save up money to help me buy a drum set. Which is like awesome if ur reading this thank u like so much wtf - but I also don't know if I want to commit to something like that just yet. It does sound super cool and fun tho and I'd love to make music with my best friend.
The drums are amazing , seriously my thing. I miss playing them so much. If I had a set right now, I would be constantly playing them. Drums are seriously like one of the most fun instruments to play, especially if you have a anger problem.
Where I am in my life currently, I feel like I really need a good hobby. I've tried art, which I do love I love to draw and to create but I tend to compare myself easily when it comes to that and I get bad art block. I tried sewing, but found myself getting so angry at tiny mistakes to the point where I no longer felt joy in it anymore. Something like the drums, where I can just sit and bang on them to create a nice rhythm seems like something that would really help me, and would get me out of this unmotivated depressive mood I constantly find myself in. I also just need to lock tf in.
Anyway, I love the drums and I hope I can get a drum set soon so I can get back into it. The drums are awesome and it's something i would devote myself to, a fun hobby that can maybe pull me back onto earth. If you are thinking of playing drums, fucking do it cuz we need more drummers out here.

I get it bro, me and my friend are also making a band but we’re short on funds cos we only have a guitar and i haven’t been able to get my greasy hands on a bass, we also need a drummer but liek we want someone from our school and literally no one plays drums
anyway, I plan on switching to percussion in my school band and see how that goes cos rn I play trumpet (literally 3rd to last chair) so I could at least fill in the drums spot… (I could go on but whatever pookie)

i know that exact feeling o_o i took private drum lessons when i was 13, music always came to me naturally and so did rhythm (drums were my second instrument, i played flute beforehand and learned clarinet shortly afterward). it was actually my parents that recommended drum lessons because i would come home from school and play rock band 2 drums for hours on end. while i knew how to read sheet music, something about reading it for drums was way too confusing. i had an amazing drum instructor who taught me the basics (a groove and a fill) and once i had that down he let me learn any song i wanted. we both found out very fast that i could play by ear. it's like the drum parts were louder to me, and i still find myself hearing only the drums in a lot of songs. if i had any trouble with a part due to technique he would play it slower for me until i could play it with him and we would speed up to tempo.
i had to stop playing when my family moved to another state, i never ended up getting a kit and still can't afford one to this day (and i live in an apartment with paper thin walls, so i would get noise complaints). i still have my drumsticks and will air drum or beat them on the floor, but i crave playing again so much. my technique is definitely gone (i'm 22 now and stopped playing when i was 14), but i know so many songs i could play once i get the technique back because i know the drum parts by heart (insert godsmack).
maybe one day when me and my boyfriend have a more private spot or i can afford a decent electric kit or even lessons again, i'll finally be able to scratch that itch again. i miss drums with my entire being.
