I saw a video of someone asking about weird eyeliner substitutes emo kids use and I had a good long think about it. I've been at this since 13-14 so I've used my fair share of strange makeup substitutions and I'll tell ya exactly what does the trick in a pinch
Mascara: 5/10
Pros:
- Works fine in a pinch
- usually indistinguishable
- stays put
- Dries black
- Safe to put around yr eyes
Cons:
- Trying to do your waterline is asking for a scratched cornea
- very pokey and scratchy wand
- GETS IN MY FUCKING EYES NO MATTER WHAT AAAAAAAAAA
- Gets crusty and flaky after a while
Black Hot Topic Lipstick: 4/10
Pros:
- Goes on easy
- Goes on thick in one swipe
- Good color
- Safe for the face
Cons:
- Comes off really easy and transfers
- Shiny eyelids
- If you have hooded eyes like me good luck keeping it neat lol
- Sticky lashes
- If you sweat even a little bit, it'll run
- Can't put it on yr waterline unless youre super careful (PLEASE don't do this. I havent done it but I can only assume it could irritate your eyes
(This would only be good for pictures or an hour or two outside)
Black and Red Watercolor Pencils from my art class: 6/10
Pros:
- Works exactly like eyeliner pencil
- Easy to use
- pretty good color
- comes off with water
Cons:
- takes forever to put on if you like thick dark lines
- runs if you sweat
- Can be sharp
- Way easier to poke yr eye out
- Needs water to be work
- won't be opaque if you dont let it dry properly
- Hard to control
- Not safe for your face
If you got the time, this would be okay of a single school day, if that.
(Yes, I put the pencils back. I'm not a monster.)
⚠Marker: 8/10
First of, DO NOT DO THIS
Pros:
- Opaque
- Easy to use
- Goes on easy
Cons:
- Stains
- The fumes may burn your eyes
- Runs
- Will turn blue or green after a while
- Wont come off in one wash
- It will look like you put marker on if you're not careful
- Itchy
- Don't even TRY to put this on your waterline.
- Not safe for your face
Super old Facepaint from a Halloween costume kit: 8/10
Pros:
- pretty much just crappy eyeliner
- easy to use
- Opaque
- safe for your face (Probably if it was newer)
- Really Heavy
- Transfers if it doesnt dry all the way
- kinda brittle
- not for little shapes
- cant sharpen
- not for your waterline
Overall, facepaint is fine for this. probably not for a long day though. maybe for school though :)
