a devil with no horns. written by yazu (me)

FADE IN.
EXT. ABANDONED STREET – NIGHT

Rain pours in sheets, drumming against the cracked pavement,
The pavement shimmered like a broken mirror, every drop
carving another scar on its face. LIAM (20s, battered,
bleeding) staggers forward, clutching LAYLA’s trembling hand.
His shirt is torn, his arm and leg riddled with fresh bullet
wounds, blood trailing behind with every desperate step just
to protect her.
Behind them, an armed gang — an army of faceless men — march
silently, weapons raised. They fire in bursts.
But LIAM keeps running, not wanting to stop, afraid they
might hurt LAYLA, the only thing keeps him alive, is that
fear of losing someone he loves.
LIAM stumbles, collapsing to one knee, dragging LAYLA down
with him. She gasps, eyes wide with fear, she clutches into
him scared, but then he noticed it, the soldiers don’t
advance. They stop when he stops. Their rifles steady,
waiting.
Liam winces, staring at the bullet holes in his body, his
breath ragged.

LIAM (LOOKING AT LAYLA)
Did you.. do this?

LIAM (V.O) (CONT'D)
She turned to me, her eyes looked
like diamonds, she hold my arm
tightly with her trembling hands.

LAYLA
I would never hurt you.

Her lips curl into a soft smile, serene, almost angelic.

LIAM (V.O.)
I looked behind me, no one was
running.

LIAM (V.O.)
I looked at Layla again, he smile
somehow started to shift in my
eyes, those diamond eyes twisted
into something sharper, colder.
LIAM (AGAIN, DESPERATE)
Layla, did you do this?

Her smile widens, unsettling.

LAYLA
Do you think I did it because they
never shoot me?

Silence.

LAYLA (SMILING)

What do you think will happen if
you let go of me?

LIAM (V.O.)
She tilted her head, like a child
curious about a dying insect

LIAM (V.O.)
I look back, They weren’t soldiers,
they were wolves on chains —
patient, but starving.
I turn back to her, voice breaking.

LIAM
if I let go of you… What will
happen?

LIAM (V.O.)
Her smile stayed, but her innocence
was gone.

LIAM (V.O.)
That was the moment I finally
understood.

His fingers slip from hers.

Silence.

He tried to stand up, but his body betrayed him. His knees
buckled, dragging him back into the mud.

LIAM (V.O.)
I tried to stand, to look at them,
but my body betrayed me… and it
wasn’t the only one who did.

The bullets found him all at once. His body trembled like a
flame before it burned out, then the rain carried him down.
Through it all, his eyes never left hers. His final act of
defiance is a look, not of hate, but of understanding.

FLASHBACK

EXT. PARK – NIGHT

Layla lies beside Liam on the bench, putting her head on his
shoulder. She smiled, and for a moment he thought the night
itself was brighter.

LAYLA
Do you think the devil has horns?
Liam chuckles, kissing her forehead.

LIAM
Of course. He’s the devil.

She shakes her head, eyes glimmering.

LAYLA
But if he had horns… you’d never
believe his lies, would you?

BACK TO PRESENT

EXT. STREET – NIGHT

Liam collapses, his body was breaking, but his eyes refused
to look away from hers.

LIAM (WEAK, WHISPERING)
You were right… the devil has no
horns.
His chest rises one final time. Then stillness.
Layla stands over him. The soldiers lower their rifles. And
in the rain-soaked silence, her smile lingers.

FADE OUT.
