Rich Aucoin's "We're All Dying to Live" - album review/introspection

Last night, I decided I was going to listen to the album "We're All Dying to Live" by Rich Aucoin. It had been sitting in my Spotify library for a while, and I already knew that I liked his music so I gave it a shot. IT WAS AWESOMEEEEE!!!!

I had no idea what to expect. All I really know about Rich Aucoin as a person is that he loves having connections. So many people worked on this album, including choruses of audience members. It's really cool how collaborative this is, and you can really hear it in the music. The sounds and influences are constantly changing, but the songs are always flowing into one another. I listened to some of the album with my eyes closed, not paying attention to the tracklist, so when I thought a song was over it had really been three songs mashed together. In some cases, this would throw me off, but it is perfect for the overall tone of this album - positivity!! Optimism!

I know a lot of people my age are on social media lately yearning for the "2012 Millennial lifestyle" (or whatever their idea of that is.) I'm no exception; I often wish I could delete all my social media and stick to Flickr, my digital camera, and being really optimistic all the time. Weird thing about that is, I've already got two out of three of those things as part of my life. I bring my digital camera almost everywhere I go, and I'm a pretty optimistic person. I'm frustrated with all of this nostalgia because there is absolutely nothing stopping anyone from living it. This album echoes these "millennial optimism" sentiments, and they hit me just as hard as someone from 2011 must have felt when the album first released. I know the world is a very different place and social media/culture at large has changed, but if people would just get over their melancholic nostalgia, they can create the life they want to live in. That's how I see it, at least. That's what this album made me think about, and it makes me excited for the future. I don't plan on surrendering to whatever bullshit is going on in the country etc. There's never a good or bad time to live in, it's always just time. And that won't change. So it's best to carve our way through tough garbage to live how we want :)

Anyway... this album is a very cool experience and I highly recommend it if you're into cool early 2010s indie projects :)
