Avery's Astral Oddities - Part 1 - Wood, Anti-depressants, and other Terrors

Alright, so like, I'm on anti-depressants, sertraline specifically. Now the thing about sertraline is that some people (including myself) experience some really surreal and vivid dreams as a side effect.

Context
Now it's funny because before I started taking these last fall, I usually couldn't remember my dreams. Now however, if I have a dream, I can usually recall at least a vague summary of it. Again, usually these dreams are nothing special. Every now and again though, I'll have one that is truly deranged and vivid. One that comes to mind is the night I dreamt a full length original movie that felt like a cross between 'videodrome' and 'event horizon'. Maybe one day I'll write about that one, but I thought I would share one that I had just last night, that while brief, is pretty funny simply because of how truly bizarre it was.

The Dream

So to set the scene, it was a grey, drizzly day outside. I was dressed in a winter jacket and was in a large open square with various buildings around me. I didn't recognize the location at all. There was a large crowd of people gathered around a stage in the middle of the square, and upon the stage stood a balding, middle aged man. I don't remember anything necessarily remarkable about him, other then that he appeared to be a politician of some kind.

So I put together that I was at some kind of political rally or something. I didn't question this, as usually I just find myself going along with the nonsense that's happening in my dreams. I walked over to the rear of the crowd and sort of stood there, kind of just passively observing the proceedings.

I have no memory of what he said at all, or if he even spoke during the course of the ralley, as the crowd was so loud. At the end of the ralley however, his voice finally cut through the noise and he said "WE ARE GOING TO PUT THE WOOD IN THE GROUND!" which was met with cheers and clapping from the crowd. He raised his voice and yelled again "AND WHY ARE WE GONNA DO IT!?" and the crowd at this point responded "WE DON'T KNOW!". The politician smiled and pumped his fists in the air triumphantly and the crowd erupted into cheers and hollering.

My Brain is a Terrible Writer

It was at this point I practically JOLTED awake with the sound of the crowds braying still ringing in my ears. Is that ending anti-climactic? Yeah, maybe. But it's what happened. It certainly stuck with me, and left me with a lot of questions as to just what in the fuck that was about. Idk if it was my brains sorry attempt at political commentary or what, but maybe I best not over analyze it. I mean shit, the state of the real world is far more dire than whatever that dream golem had planned for those trees.

Anyway, maybe I'll write more about my dreams another time. See y'all there!
Have a good one and keep your sticks on the ice, ya hosers!
