Marais et al. have described a new species of the genus Tinamus with a dark slate facial mask, vivid rufous-cinnamon underparts, and a uniform brownish-gray back. These traits are commons of the three female subjects described (we don't now if they are presents also in the males).
Tinamus resonans owns its name to the refers to the striking echoing effect of the species’ song, which reverberates across the steep montane slopes of its habitat as a result of strong acoustic diffusion.
