Ah! Tiff's playing-ed Alan Wake (Remastered) 1, Episode 1 today...

I've decided that in celebration of Control: Resonant being fully announced that last Game Awards ceremony, I'm going to finally pick up & play Alan Wake! Remastered. On the Epic Games Store, since I bought the EGS exclusive 'Alan Wake II' on there RIGHT before I decided to buy this.

An Episode a day!! Since, sadly, I have many musics I need to still make this month's remainder.

The writing's acutely cheesy off the gate-- very nicely homage, even with the opening shots ala The Shining & two (2!) mentions of Stephen King thus far. The replacement of an orthodox crosshair with that of the flashlight's focused blur is Really cool, conceptually and in execution: it makes combat rightly chaos-prone, in the way that feels Very intentional and not just as a flaw of happenstance. Alan says he's never shot a gun outside a range before, so it very makes sense for this to be a non-crosshair gaming style!

The distortion on the enemy's vocals are nice, I ESPECIALLY like how it feels Weird Madness style and not just stereotypical Madness: these enemies are broken records, seemingly repeating things left on their mind only because it's the things they've said just earlier today. You're hearing their side of a previous conversation play in non-linear order on repeat around you, as you await them to spawn & locate you. The axes... aren't my favorite iteration of this thrown obstacle from an enemy, but I do like that it isn't a definite hit from any distance, that they've missed me while I was standing still powering a generator once. It's the luck I come to expect in these Survival Horrors with how much they can seemingly gang up on you, and sometimes seemingly cannot but do in spite of the odds. It doesn't have the last resort mechanics of Resident Evil, which I do kinda wish it had, though maybe that'd be later? Could be like, a match you light to get them off your face for a second. Either way, I like the rewarding-ness of the fights.

The game's plot is very nice! thus far, so I can't quite seem to tell where it will go next partly due to the cool layout of it. What the hell is happening? I'm definitely right there with Alan, I can relate to his position on this, and I really respect the way he's written as a Writer in this! The manuscript pages also are very nice writing, I can definitely tell why he's famous from the quality I see of it. Well job!

Have many things more to say, but I'll wait out on when I get to Episode 2 tomozz. For now, it's sadly 'busy' hours. Bon voy-agie!
