"Form Hero to Zero" or "How I saw myself in Dispatch (the game)"

The game of life:

A month or so ago I was cruising through my YT home page, as I usually do whenever I'm bored, or when I want to escape for a bit from the place I'm in: ( a sad party, an endless day or after having had an harsh discussion with my parents ) when I stumbled upon a recorded live stream of a Youtuber I had really never watched before; the title of the game he was playing was:

" Dispatch play through episodes 3-4 ".

( Ill' put the link to the first episode so that you can enjoy the story from the beginning: https://youtu.be/O4RIncLkR-c?si=sxZeGlmqrT3K-YmM )

I was a bit captivated by the image on the thumbnail, probably because it reflected how I was feeling like in that moment.

I clicked on it, and boy oh boy I had no idea of what I was getting myself into.

Fast forward a couple of weeks and I was refreshing the home page hoping for the last two episodes play through to come out as soon as possible, just to see how the story of those imaginary people in an imaginary world I had learned to know in the past weeks would turn out: maybe bad, maybe good, probably bittersweet.

A bit of context:

At this point I know what you might be thinking: " Ok Rip, I got it, you found a game you like and watched the playthrough of 10 different people as the majority of us do whenever we stumble upon a story we like, or one that we can relate to; so what's so special about it? Why should we care?".

The reason is simple: because this story in the opposite of what we usually expect, while being at the same time the description of what most of us ( I believe ) experience at least once in our lives (or at least that's what I'm experiencing right now, but my blog my rules hahah).

The game revolve around the character of "Robert Robertson the third",

This guy

a Captain America like superhero, who looses his special suit after a fight and, while trying to find a way back the ladder his life fell down of due to the loss, finds himself hired by a superhero agency called "SDN", where he's put in charge of mentoring a group of ex-criminals into becoming superheroes.

The story then goes on 'till the happy/sad/bittersweet ending ( If you hoped in a spoiler, so sorry to have deceived you hahaha) but the real point of it all is THE FALL.

There are plenty of stories of people becoming heroes from nothing, and to be honest those are usually the ones we like: the socially awkward / looser / the good guy inside becomes a hero by chance and then is left to prove that he deserves that role by embracing a series of near-impossible missions.

But this time we find the sorry set the other way around:

The hero, the guy who had dedicated all his life to one thing and one thing only, the guy that fully deserves what the has achieved and has proved numerous times that the role he has chosen is the right fit for him, suddenly finds himself lost: stripped of that one thing that used to give him meaning, the one thing that woke him up early in the morning and is left wondering.

WHY? WHY ME? AFTER ALL I HAVE DONE? DID EVERYTHING I HAVE DONE 'TILL NOW HAVE NO MEANING?

and the most important of them all...

WHAT NOW?

From that point on we start to see the less super hero part of Robert and the more human part of the poor guy: he gets angry, wants revenge, fells useless, lost and, at last, starts to finally shows himself and loose that superhero skin that he was so used to wear.

The story hen goes on, but I'll give you the chance to go and discover it by yourself.

My life in this game that life is.

So here we are...

I'm no superhero, but in the past 6 months I have been on a quest to find myself again after falling, just like Robert. I was a pretty good student with big dreams and a bigger than life pride, to the point of feeling like someone whose destiny had been written in the stars of greatness and success ( yeah, I know, a bit of a megalomaniac attitude, no one is perfect ) , then the suit cracked.

My first year at University ( one of the hardest in the country obviously, what else could the guy with "destiny of greatness" do? remember that megalomaniac attitude from before? hahaha ) was a total mess.

I crashed,

I wasn't able to do what I had done 'till that point: I had lost "my suit" and now I was left wondering, as I'am now, if my life was just one big lie, while others scream out what they think I should so.

I'll keep y'all updated but for now I have just one more thing: enjoy the theme song of this entry

Peace out.
