The Malaysian Cherry Red Centipede!

Hai! My name is Nik! I’m really interested in terrestrial mollusks, insects, arachnids, and myriapods. So here is a blog about my favorite myriapod, the Malaysian Cherry Red Centipede! The Scolopendra Dehaani

General Info:

The Malaysian Cherry Red Centipede (AKA: Scolopendra Dehaani) is a very large species of centipede that grows to be about 7-9 inches. They have an extremely potent and PAINFUL venom which can cause a lot of issues. A fatal case was reported in the Philippines in which the centipede had bitten a seven-year-old girl on her head, and she died a day and 5 hours later.

Habitat & Lifespan:

Scolopendra Dehaani are native to tropical parts of Vietnam and the rainforests of Malaysia. (As you can see from the name.) They prefer warm, dark, and damp environments and utilize leaf mulch, rocks, logs, and soil to hide and take shelter. In captivity, this species of centipede can live up to 7-10 years, possibly even longer with excellent care; however, in the wild, they can live several years. Still, sources don't specify exactly how long.

Diet:

The Scolopendra Dehaani is a carnivorous myriapod, so their diet consists of insects, spiders, and they even tackle things bigger than themselves in the wild, such as small frogs and lizards. If in captivity, you may feed them crickets, dubia roaches, superworms, and earthworms.

And that concludes my little rant about the Malaysian Cherry Red Centipede, but I WILL write more once I find more information, but my sources so far are. (I am unaware that they are shopping websites but please do not purchase unless youre a professional or you know wha youre doing.)
