Does it really suck to live in the US? (this has autoplay btw)

I've always wanted to move to the US,my first thought was Europe but i figured german wouldnt spawn in my head like english did,so i looked into the second best option.

However,it seems as if people living in the US dont want to live there? I keep seeing videos about how 50 dollars gets you nothing, and how people are putting down payments for almost every purchase, how most people live paycheck to paycheck and have no house and car.

But is any of that true?

Are house prices that high? Are car prices that high? Is EVERYTHING's price that high? Or is this some grand scheme to discourage foreigners from moving there?

I even see something along the lines of ''living in usa (unfortunately)'' in people's bios.

Maybe it varies from state to state? i plan to move somewhere in the northeast. (Wisconsin,Illinois,Michigan,Indiana or Ohio)

Any americans let me know if it's true. I might aswell stay in Turkey or switch to Europe if life really is that expensive over there.

ALSO any europeans tell us if life really is paradise over there, because i keep hearing both turks and americans say so.

honestly, it depends where you're moving. if you want to live in a city, prices are absolutely ridiculous, but for smaller towns (particularly in impoverished areas such as appalachia), house prices aren't that insane. It obviously depends on your financial situation as well as if you're looking for a suburban, rural, or urban environment.

I am not financially independent as I live with my parents, so I may not give the best testimony on this. along with that, I am most definitely well off compared to most Americans, but generally prices on everything depend on where you live.

Though, here is definitely a lot of political unrest in the US. most people seem to hate wherever they live, regardless of where they're from... it appears to just be the human experience to hate where you are at the current and long for it once nostalgia kicks in, but the United States definitely has its pros and cons.

well thanks for your humble opinion

have you ever been to neighboring states? currently considering cincinnati ohio

by AmbitiousCat; ; Report

yeah! I haven't been to Cincinnati, but I've been to Columbus and Cleveland in Ohio! I really enjoyed my time in both cities, Columbus definitely had more shopping and consumeristic attributes, but Cleveland had a lot of pretty historical infrastructure, as well as modern amenities. Ohio is quite nice, ive enjoyed it every time ive been!

House prices are actually insane rn, it sucks.
Im from michigan, if you dont mind living decently away from cities the prices become more normal.

Currently there are near 45% more sellers than buyers for homes so prices are expected to fall.

Used car prices never recovered from when Obama maliciously destroyed most used cars for "environmental reasons" but you can still get a decent ish one for around 5k.

Its not that bad overall, id be happy to answer any more specific questions too

I live in a nice area in the midwest but I road tripped around the country a lot.

Its not nearly as bad as people make it out to be, just don't move somewhere nuts like Santa Barbara or some shit hole, and stay in the 'good' parts of the city.

I don't live in the US but I have visited before and it was the most expensive trip I've ever had. I stayed for less than 10 days and I've come to realise that just the basics such as food is was too expensive, obviously I don't know the long-term cost but this is just my experience. Also, the US isn't exactly the best place to be living in, especially in these times considering everything that's going on over there. Have you thought about any other English speaking countries?? Scotland is very beautiful and I'm planning on moving there. Ireland is also a great place to live but not too sure anymore because the inflation for housing has gone up a good bit. (Sorry for yap :p)

trump might get rid of elections, which would effectively go ALL the way to neo-nazisim

he also is making it harder for women and trans people people to vote (do you really wanna live in a place where women and trans people aren't even allowed to vote)

the healthcare is literally being stripped from minestotians for not liking ice... uhm
more on healthcare, I fractured my tailbone once and my family had to pay thousands of dollars to get me fixed (we have good insurance too)
I know this wont affect you but GIVING BIRTH SAFELY is too expensive for most people, and more and more states are making abortion illegal

everything about BASIC healthcare needs are literally being stripped from
1. people who don't blindly follow the government
2. women
3. people with less income (which is most of the US)
4. trans people (making it harder for HRT, I don't think I've mentioned this but I'm trans and hrt could very well save my life)

I know you aren't any of those things but moving here and then not doing anything about it (because you cant safely do it) would be standing up for these things and paying for it to happen

AND more on the insane capitalism, you are literally a wage slave. they literally don't care about you unless you're helping the rich get richer. almost every working american would agree.

if you want the US but without most of these issues, look at Canada man
literally everyone I know has expressed wanting to flea to Canada (I live like a 6 hour drive from the border)

If you were to move to the US you'd most likely regret it, if your not racist, homophobic, and if your against maga, or if your not even slightly political. The US will either be the worse place to be in, or the best depending if your white, and a male. As so much ahs happened. Our president is a literal felon. Mentioned in the epstein files, 3,500 times, yet white men prefer him. If you look the slightest Latin american, ice WILL come knocking at your door or yank you off the street. They haven't even cared. If you say anything towards ice like "I'm not afraid" you will either be thrown into the van, or many other circumstances. However if your white, and a man, they don't care.

It's a hit and miss. Depends on what you're going for really too. From what I'm reading you really got to compare different states and what you want out of each one. The cheapest state to live in is Mississippi and that's here in the south while I would say if you want to go for nerd culture that's modest you could try Indiana. Which has things like Gen Con and good housing and from what I read I think walkable streets?

Don't move to any downtown areas. That's where a lot of people make their mistakes. They move from a big city like let's say you moved from Germany and it worked out cuz you could walk everywhere, here in America the problem is is that you lived in a very easy to walk place and here in America those places are more expensive like hella expensive. While you can rent scooters, bikes, Ubers, and so on, sure you can do all that but it's just going to add up over time. You want to live in like a suburban like area where it's easier to walk to places if you have to but you can still bike if you have to. I don't know if that made sense.

But don't be stupid and live where you're like 20 minutes out of town like I am because 20 minutes outside of town still means 4 hours of walking for me. The nearest store is an an hour and 15 minutes away from walking and I know this because I tested it. It's a 55 mph road.

We're just in a very janky ass place right now with how everything works so your best bet is to just try to be financially stable before you move at all whether or not it's the US, the UK, Canada, any place like that.

Report Comment

you bet

i'll compare some more states tomorrow then

also i dont necessarily think ill have a problem with getting around,i was actually planning to buy a 2000 dollar beater from facebook marketplace

"ARE YOU LOWBALLING ME SON?? I KNOW WHAT IVE GOT!!"

also about that "financially stable before moving at all" thing

yeah i will do that i kept that in mind from the start

best case scenario i go there in my mid 20's,worst case scenario? my 40's

by AmbitiousCat; ; Report

No joke, go to chat GPT, ask it everything your specifically thinking about moving to America, and tell it to compare every place. That's what I was doing not too long ago trying to compare where the best city to live if I ever moved out of Georgia. It told me for being my nerdy self that Indianapolis would be a great fit for me because they've got the convention Gen Con which is tabletops and gaming, and a lot of other cool stuff and I am considering it. But also the other reason Indianapolis is because it's actually fairly priced. But I probably will never move out of Georgia

it sadly is that expensive.
its been proven that the new generation is likley to never do as well as their parents bc of prices.
OWNING a house is unrealistic now.
down payments are necessary now.

i bought 4 things at the store and it was $30..
to buy grocies to feed a family of 2 is typically $200-$400.
my moms grocery bill for her and my dad and sometimes me is $300 ;/

its very dangerous to move here ATM! if you evne look like youre not american (its fucking disgusting)

yesterday a boy got beat up for ice for having brown skin bc they thought he was mexican, he was a US American citizen..

but yea sadly all of those are true.
some places are more safe than others and more affordable, so do your research.
also getting a job for some reason is difficult because its hard to pay people.

move here if thats your dream tho, but just make sure you have the funds and SAFTEY!
its best to have a profession that includes a college degree or else you will most likley live paycheck to paycheck.

but like i said, anyone can do it. nothing is impossible if you want it bad enough.
i would get it until 2028-2029 when electios for new president come. hoping the left side wins bc theyre about saftey and lowering prices. :3

The inflation hits us all. US definitely more than other countries. Life is expensive in Germany as well. It really depends on your job but a lot of people here can´t afford buying a house as well. The costs for rent also depend on which city u live in. Berlin, München, Frankfurt.. rents are exploding there. You might be lucky in smaller towns.

At least the health insurance is okay so I don´t have to worry if I can pay for visiting the doctor.

Whether if it´s German or any other language: Try to use childreens book/general media. Learn the language like a kid. It´ll make it easier to learn.

Report Comment

for more specification,i'll probably go to east germany and my job will probably be something about IT.

also, would you recommend learning german from a turkish base,or an english base? asking because english and german are slightly similar languages. (also because i probably speak english better than my native language)

by AmbitiousCat; ; Report

Oh, interesting! If you have any question let me know. If it´s light bureaucracy. I could help u translate german documents if u don´t understand them.

If your english is better anyways, i´d use it as your base and then learn German.

Btw. I can recommend you really cool German songs! They´re for kids to learn German!
Search on Youtube for: "Was ist dein Lieblingsfach" (about favorite subjects), "Wann hast du Geburtstag" (about birthdays and months) and "Das ist meine Familie" (family). The thumbnails show a guy with blonde hair and a girl with black hair. Their looks and movements are kinda cursed but it´s soo hilarious lol

They have a series together and the names of the characters are Rolli and Rita. If u check it out let me know what u think lmaooo

It really depends tbh... If you are a skilled and can find a decent career then the US offers (albeit shrinking) ability to set yourself up for financial success. There is alot of doom and gloom but there are many benefits that can be outweighed. Its not a place to expect government handouts like europe. Hardwork and strategic choice in career can set you up for life.
