Please Watch Wake Up Dead Man

^^^ I watched the new knives out movie that came out a little while ago and oh my god its fire. i wanna rewatch the first 2 movies before i say too much bc im planning on writing a review (/analysis? probably analysis by the time i get there) of it for my journalism class but holy shart.

i love benoit blanc. im so glad hes not surrounded by annoying ass rich people for once. this time hes surrounded by annoying ass catholics!!! church murder wahoo!! this is pandering to a Very Specific Person but he is the gay detective i mentioned. hes great.

im a big fan of how complex religion was portrayed in the movie as someone is is Not religious in the slightest. like blanc is v explicitly an atheist who is disillusioned with the church and that isnt treated as a character flaw that needs to be resolved. if anything, his reasoning is well justified. like no shit an older southern gay man isn’t fond of religion. But then I also rlly enjoy how the religious characters are respected as well. Jud (main character priest guy, also rlly liked him) is staunchly faithful, but he’s also the first one to point out when his faith is being abused to radicalize people and spread hate.

on the note of radicalization, i love how monsignor wicks is written. as a character he sucks and i cheered when he died but hes so fascinating to me. but basically he’s the head of the church the movie is centered on and hes such a hypocritical asshole. he builds up his own power by creating a environment of hate and hostility and tries to make himself a christ-like figure and all he does is make the lives of his followers worse. he openly shames his dead mother (who he refers to as “The Harlot Whore”) for being promiscuous and having him out of wedlock when one of his first scenes is him describing how much he beats his meat. He also has his own bastard kid that he doesn’t even try to own up to until the last minute so its like??? dude??? 

theres definitely a lot more i could say here. i started the movie last night on a really slow piracy site because i refuse to get netflix but i only finished it today because a house uh. caught on fire down the road. not a good time to watch a movie.
