Original poem series

So a long time ago back in high school English we had an assignment to write poem examples.

That really had me inspired learning all the different types of poems. I ended up creating a small section and one of those poems was this one called "To my wife, Josephine." I'm not married or even in a relationship but I wrote this poem as my own fantasy. I was inspired my a specific painting of a man hugging a woman in a green bed. The woman had red hair, I believe.

It is about a shepherd who writes letters to his wife while he is out in the field herding sheep. I was thinking it would take place in Scotland but in recent times I was thinking maybe the appalachian mountains suit the story better since I'm also not Scottish. Either way, here is the poem.

"To my wife Josephine,"

"So long have I been in these high lands waiting for my sheep,

that the treacherous walks across the mountains could make this man yearn for better sleep.

Pity your shepherd can no longer rely on hard ground for short rests,

My only prayer is to return home so I may lay my head on your soft breasts.

Promise to you, my love, that as soon as this migration is over, I will return to our fireplace so I can join you under our covers."

Please leave a comment on what you think. Thank you :)
