Consuming Gore Harms You

This may not reach the person, or people, who need to hear it, but I'm posting it regardless. This is in response to the edgelords that consistently ban evade on SpaceHey just to spam gore on their profiles and make disturbing blogs.

There are better ways to get attention that are not self-destructive nor a way to scare people away from you. This is not the way to go. Gore and further self-harm is not the answer.

Shock content, especially with heavy content that involves real life gore, has been proven to have negative impacts on the brain. This is what this blog will heavily focus on as it's the most reoccurring on SpaceHey. This has also become a huge issue on other sites and apps, TikTok being a notable example.

First and foremost, there is a significant number of minors on here, many of which I've seen to be in the 13-16 age range. Minors are more likely to be affected by the consumption of gore in comparison to adults. Exposure, especially repeated, can result in many negative side effects. One of the most notable is desensitization. Repeated exposure habituates and further encourages aggressive actions without the child feeling negative affect as violence becomes less adverse to children that are repeatedly exposed to it. These aggressive thoughts can still linger, even if they aren't acted out. Violent content has been proven to impact mental health and other negative effects such as increased risk of anxiety disorders.

This kind of media is especially harmful for those who are more vulnerable, mentally or emotionally. For example, a 17-year old has expressed his obsession with shock videos while also making plans to kill his family and set off bombs at school. His parents expressed concern in the fact that these videos were contributing to his violent state.

While we as humans have a morbid curiosity, this does not mean this type of content should be normalized. I feel like this is important as the Internet has a strange thing with making tragedy a comedic or game of strength.

Forgive me as this blog isn't exactly the best. I pretty much made this on a whim after witnessing an utterly disturbing gore account on this site. I feel like I could've put in a lot more, but it is pretty difficult finding sources that don't rely on pop-ups every second or just cannot be properly accessed without McAfee warning me of a threat.

If you see a gore account, block and report. Do not fuel the fire of negative attention.

If you are in need, don't be afraid to reach out. You are not alone.
