[REVIEW] Parkway Drive - Horizons

I WILL JUST PREFACE THAT I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THE FONT IS LIKE THIS, but without further ado!

My Review

1) Begin: 7/10 | The album begins with a short, arpeggiated instrumental; It’s almost like it’s a prelude to a metal album.

2) The Sirens’ Song: 8/10 | Welcome to a standard Parkway Drive track - heavy metalcore with death metal influences.

3) Feed Them to the Pigs: 7/10 | Has more of a kick to it than the previous song but loses out on a better ranking for being too short (only about 2.5 minutes)

4) Carrion: 11/10 | One of the band’s signature songs and probably the closest thing to ‘emo‘ that you could pick from the album. The clean guitar tone used here is absolutely phenomenal.

5) Five Months: 7/10 | Guitar tones carry this band, in all honesty, but this is a good example of much more matured songwriting in comparison to the more profane and brash songs of their debut.

6) Boneyards: 10/10 | Heaviest song spotted! Say what you want about the band’s vocalist, but he can do a pretty good death growl. He also has a strange obsession with sharks.

7) Idols and Anchors: 11/10 | A ballad-sounding metalcore track. Hard to explain, but the guitar harmonies are impressive!

8) Moments in Oblivion: 6/10 | Quite literally under 2 minutes - extremely brief, but it’s not bad at all.

9) Breaking Point: 6/10 | Metalcore song No. 9...

10) Dead Man’s Chest: 4/10 | Parkway Drive has some help from another Aussie band named ‘No Apologies‘, but that doesn’t mean that this is a good song - especially because that band’s vocalist sounds like he’s putting on a bad Texan accent.

11) Frostbite: 7/10 | Y’know, Horizons could actually be the world’s greatest concept album about sharks

12) Horizons: 9/10 | A great album closer that has some prog elements to it. ‘Nuff said.

I recommend the songs ‘Carrion’, ‘Boneyards’, ‘Idols and Anchors’ and ‘Horizons’ to all metalheads for the music, and emos for the lyrics.
