Blatantly, a common take I see in videos concerning Sofia the First (Usually made by people who haven't seen the show in years), is that Ruby and Jade are "fake" or "terrible" friends. This will be an over-analytical take on Ruby and Jade in the pilot and EP 2, and class division in the kingdom of Enchancia.
Sofia the First from Ruby and Jade's perspective is quite terrible, actually. Their best friend Sofia randomly becomes royalty one day, she lives far enough where they cannot play with her, but close enough where they can see her house. A friend moving away is a hard experience for any eight year old, but now imagine this friend doesn't really move away at all, she more so moves socially. When Sofia leaves the village in the pilot movie, Ruby and Jade ask her not to forget about them after she becomes a princess. Ruby and Jade after this moment, only appear in 17 episodes out of one-hundred and thirteen. Plain to say, she hardly remembered them.
Ruby and Jade are often bashed by "fans" because of the events of Episode two, "The Perfect Sleepover". They are often criticized for not acting like the princesses do, which I would argue is a classist take rooted in the idea that specifically Amber and Hildegarde are right because of their status (and maybe a catchy song). Ruby and Jade cannot be expected to understand he rules and behaviors only taught at a private school so exclusive people travel from entirely separate countries to attend, and that only accepts literal royalty. This schooling system obviously breeds a lack of acceptance for the lower classes, we see repeatedly how Sofia has to teach her peers how to not be assholes to poor people, or even having to be re-taught that same lesson. Ruby and Jade are not miscreants ruining a sleepover, they're girls excited by the high profile individuals around them, and the glamour and luxury their friend is now afforded (because of their taxes btw). Ruby and Jade were right to be hurt when their friend is suddenly "too rich" to be seen with them, and the idea that being at a princess sleepover means they MUST know all the rules and be trained in them (Again, a luxury only for the top most people on the entire planet), is frankly unrealistic. When people give their two cents on these two girls, they often forget that they are not only not afforded these privileges, but they are literally eight in season one.
This is a very short analysis of the pilot and EP2 alone, but literally every argument for why they're "terrible" can be debunked in like five seconds if you use basic empathy or spend five seconds trying to see the world from their eyes instead of the literal monarchs that are constantly putting them at a disadvantage.
