🎀💭Unhindered Chronicles Pg. 4🎀💭 Say Hey: Culture, Curiosity, (A Little Flirting Never Hurt Anyone)

One of my absolute favorite things in the world is meeting new people — especially people whose lives look completely different from mine. It’s fascinating how our backgrounds shape us, but I’ve noticed something: sometimes those differences make connection feel harder than it actually is. People end up missing out on amazing conversations, beautiful friendships, or even a little chemistry simply because they’re unsure how to bridge the gap.

But hear me out — connecting across cultures is so much easier than people think.

For example, I’ve always loved learning about Asia, right alongside learning about my ancestral roots in Africa. Ever since I was a little girl, both regions have held a special place in my heart. And the cutest thing happens when you learn even a little about someone’s culture: suddenly, you have a natural doorway into conversation.

Take South Korea, for instance. I celebrate a few Korean holidays — I know, it might sound unusual to some, but honestly? It’s fun. And this past October, when Chuseok came around (think: a Korean Thanksgiving celebrating the harvest), I stopped by my local Asian market. I asked one of the ladies working there what dish she recommended for celebrating Chuseok, and without hesitation she said:

“Tteokbokki. Spicy rice cakes.”

— said it like it was the only correct answer. And honestly? She wasn’t wrong.

Now, let me be clear: loving other cultures doesn’t mean expecting people to act like your favorite drama characters. There’s a huge difference between appreciating traditions and falling into that “cringe” territory. As long as you’re respectful, curious, and not projecting fantasies onto people, most folks actually love seeing their culture reach across oceans.

And believe it or not… a lot of us aren’t as intimidating as social conditioning makes us seem.

Most of us like when you say hey.

We like when you flirt a little.

I like when you flirt a little. 💋

Ask questions, show interest — you’d be surprised how many of us enjoy sharing what we know. I’ve always believed harmony starts with real education. Racism, bigotry, colorism — none of that is natural. It’s taught. And anything taught can be unlearned.

So next time you see a gorgeous girl, a handsome guy, or… you know, me if you’re in my area 😘 —

don’t overthink it.

Just say hey.

I’d love to talk to you.
