Across the Sea is NOT about what you think

ACROSS THE SEA IS NOT ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK

A LITTLE INTRODUCION

Across the Sea is the fifth track from Pinkerton, the 2nd studio album from the band Weezer.

WHAT'S THE SONG ABOUT?

The lyrics of the song are often misinterpreted. People don't think about its real meaning. Rivers allegedly wrote the song about an anonymous 18 year old girl who wrote him a letter, even though he was already 24 during the writing of this song. The lyrics become a little creepy during the second verse, where Rivers describes himself licking the envelope of the letter, and then he proceeds to wonder about how the girl touches herself. Even though this is, in fact, creepy, it's not the final meaning of the song. The song is actually about the loneliness that Rivers was experiencing during the Pinkerton era, and how much he was craving for real feelings from the people around him, so he ended up looking for those feelings into a person he had never even saw once.

CONCLUSION

THIS is what the song means, and its rawness and its honesty is what males it so emotional.

And it also has the 2nd best weezer solo :D
