Recently, I've been thinking about this a lot since I've been experiencing this a lot this year.
Okay so boom (sorry I had too lol), the internet as we know became omnipresent in our everyday life and because of that we've been interacting with a lot of media like tiktoks, reels tweets and all type of content. These medias are filled with opinions, ideology, etc and I think interacting with that much content is causing us to lose ourselves in them and loose our individuality. That's why ppl are starting to look more and more alike in their music taste, clothes, etc, individuality is actually dying.ย
We can witness the lack of individuality by comparing the early 2000's with today, you could literally tell who a person was by looking at their clothes, music tastes or what they like in general.
I've been experiencing this a lot too by having periods where I literally don't feel like myself but a mass composed of all the content I've consumed during that day...
Another factor is the fear of being made fun of, chosing to be like everyone so you won't stand out even if it means toย deny the real you.
But I don't think that chasing individuality is the solution ! Because it'll just be the same issue over and over but with everyone wanting to be different from everyone.
This can cause ppl to do things they didn't really want to do because they wanted to be so different from others.
This blog is unfortunately not a solution to this issue but to talk abt an issue that needs to be solved ASAP lol. This is a topic that already have been talked abt a lot but I wanted to say something abt it too lol.ย
If y'all have anything to say about this, I would be glad to hear it !
1# Blog ever too !!!ย

I totally get what you mean! I swear there are people I've interacted with before that make me wonder if they even have a favorite color... I think a large bulk of this issue is focusing too much on outwards appearance and less inwardly. Like even for style, the reason why it's so easy to tell when someone only dresses alternative (think like skater for this example ig) because it's popular on their side of Instagram is because they have no real life experiences that shape how they express themselves! To truly learn to embrace authenticity is to focus on internal exploration first. I see no problem in seeking inspiration from media/art but the issue with doing that through social media is that it's shallow and constantly pushing you to be a certain way. I think when people feel stuck in the algorithms it can help to just go somewhere in real life! Maybe a museum, a concert or even a walk. What helps me is to let myself be drawn to the things I like, ask myself why and figure out the connections between my inclinations. Holy yap sorry!
I 1000% agree with you seeking inspiration frm medias isn't wrong but using it to dictate your taste is the issue, instrospection (internal exploration) is actually like u said the key to detach ourselves from all of this ! Thanks for sharing your opinion I liked reading it :)

Itโs also kinda wierd cuz there is lot of relatable content ppl like and thatโs kinda how ppl can tell how u view stuff but itโs like ur phone basically knows so much about ur identity and thoughts lol and how social media is all curated to things u like โฆ
You're right ! And I think that's apart of the issue because if you only see things u like, you prevent yourself to discover new things and change opinions or taste ! The lack of desire to explore can be linked to this

Omg this is something I was just thinking bout !! I mean I think ppl still hv their individuality if they combine all the stuff they like and do their own thing that makes them happy but at Same time I feel lot of ppl nowadays copy each other like some subcultures how they r displayed on TikTok is to look a specific way when it rlly doesnโt hv to be that polished or be exact .. like thereโs too much comparison and beauty standards also ..
Yea you're rightt, I feel like ppl wants to be an aesthetic more than actually being themselves it's like they're cosplaying a character... And yesss beauty standars and comparaison made things alot worse than they already were :/

Ya and itโs like u can just do what u want and be who u r without having to do things a certain way or be a certain way to be great ..

And also like the issue with alt now bc lot of ppl dress alt but donโt have the values or mindsets that shaped what alt is they jus do the look but donโt agree with the mindset.. which is honestly kinda strange to me .. cuz i think alt fashion has become a bit more mainstream ..
