I dont have any friends or people that care about me because of my face. Everyday i look on social media and some unattractive person is being shamed just for being alive. It really confuses me
why do looks matter so much now?

Its a pretty complicated questions, looks have always mattered, the origins are murky but humanity has always been obsessed with beauty, somehow our brain chemistry has been wired to view certain traits as "good" because of randomness, misconceptions or conditions, for the misconceptions bit for example (i dunno if this is tru but ) the reasons why a big chest is desirable is because people used to think a bigger chest = more milk for babies, so it was more ideal to marry a woma with a bigger chest, and it was already too late by the time this misconception was cleared up and its already been cemented into our society as the standard. As for conditions fatness used to be a desirable trait because it showed u had the money and status to be well fed, and then science came out and said being too fat isnt good actually, and then fatness started being seen as undesirable. Sorry for the rant lol. My theory is beauty standards originated because of whatever features were considered more desirable for mating purposes and reproduction for survial, but as society became more modern the standards changed and became more and more frivolous and unimportant

i haven’t really seen people getting bullied for being ugly (faking compliments instead) but they can easily confront an ugly person the second some misunderstanding happens

Ah, I’ve noticed this same issue. I think its that people like for others to be easy understand and put into categories. If someone is mocked for being “ugly” (which tbh means looking different from current standards, aka having a unique look) they are subconsciously deemed “bad” in simplest terms.. its much easier for a primitive brain with 0 empathy to do this instead of understanding someone’s whole.
