Dracula (1931)

I've watched this multiple times. As a fan of the novel, I'm aware of the inaccuracies found in this movie. However, I still found this to be the most enjoyable of all the Dracula adaptations I've seen. I enjoyed the atmosphere the most, and, of course, the star of the movie, Bela Lugosi. What a brilliant rendition of Count Dracula. I adored every scene Dwight Frye was in as well. It helps that R.M. Renfield is my favourite character in the novel. The little quirks that Dwight gave Renfield were lovely and immersive. I enjoyed watching the other characters as well. The movie's decision to mix up Jonathan and Renfield's roles and to make Lucy the daughter of Dr. Seward was quite strange, but not too off-putting. However, I wish Quincey had appeared in this movie, as he was quite entertaining in the novel. He was also the one who actually killed Dracula, so he was quite important. It would have been entertaining to have a cowboy in the movie as well.

I only wish the movie were able to show more of the gruesome scenes in the novel instead of simply implying them. I know this wasn't possible due to the censorship laws of the time, but it would have been great to see this cast act out the scenes in their entirety. Also, there is a severe lack of wolves in the movie. The Dracula I know was a wolf-fucker. Thank you, Bram Stoker. And of course, thank you to everyone who worked on this film.
