Oh my god you guys, I just got home from work and it was actually a really good day! I was super anxious because my direct lead just got fired yesterday and she's the most experienced person there. For context, I work at a retirement home on the activities team! I specialize in the memory care department, so I do all the activities with the residents that have dementia!
Well, I came in today and my boss came to talk to me in my office. I was planning on leaving the end of February because my roommate can't afford to split our one bedroom apartment anymore, so I was going to move back in with my brother and look for a job closer over there. My boss told me that not only is our Executive Director upset to see me go, but so is our home office boss, who manages all of the activities directors in all our facilities. My boss told me they were asking what they could do to get me to stay. So she talked with our Executive Director today, suggesting they move me up from $17.50/hr to 19/hr, and they can give me my former leads job and hire me an assistant. My Executive Director has sent the request in to get approved, but my boss says it will most likely be approved because they don't want to lose me.
So my boss is going to have the information tomorrow if I'm getting offered a promotion or not! Then she said she's going to train me the next couple weeks because her last day is Christmas. This has completely turned everything around! I'm so excited, I was not ready to leave my residents. I'm feeling a lil guilty though, while I'm over here ready to celebrate, my former lead is at home, wondering how she's going to pay the bills or how her residents are doing (they were hers long before they were mine). I've been told not to feel guilty, and that she'll be okay. I know she'll be okay, she's smart and I know she will get through it. But, you know, I still feel bad.
I think I'll still move back in with my brother, that way I won't have to pay any rent, utilities, groceries, etc. The lyfts too and from work are going to be brutal (An easy 650+ out of each paycheck), but at least I will still be making enough to pay off debt and save for a car! What kind of car should I start looking at?? I've been looking at a Chevy Malibu a lot, or maybe a Toyota! Idk, something reliable and cheap!
