I'm trying my best to read A Book of Disquiet, but I find myself glazing through the text and then coming back to force myself to read slower. It's so fucking annoying; I have just been conditioned to read too fast. All my life it's been "read the first sentence and then the last and you'll get the gist of the paragraph" and I used to pride myself on how fast I functionally read passages in the text, but now it has become my detriment. I lose the little details, bits of the prose that make this book I'm trying to read memorable. I could tell you the main points the author could be trying to make, but I just can't fucking read. Why the fuck do standardized tests promote speed over analysis it just makes no fucking sense. I'm still going to read and fix this problem of mine, but god do I feel horrid.
standardized testing killed my ability to read for fun
